1 For Your Safety
Before using the radio, read the safety, compliance, and user information supplied with each
radio, battery, and charger. Make sure you are familiar with any warnings or specific operating
conditions.
1.1 Radio Frequency Exposure
Warning This radio emits radio frequency (RF) energy. Read the Safety and
Compliance Information (401-00153-xx) supplied with this radio, ensuring you
comply with the conditions listed, before use.
1.2 Battery Warning
Warning This radio uses a Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. If the battery is damaged or
handled in an unsafe manner it can cause personal injury and/or damage to
property. Read the Li-ion Battery Safety Information (MPC-00006-xx), included with
your battery, before use.
1.3 Charger Warning
Warning Incorrect use of the battery charger can damage the battery and/or radio

2 Before Using Your Radio
Before using your radio follow the instructions in this section to fit any additional labels,
attach the antenna, belt clip, and audio accessory, and charge the battery for the first time.
2.1 Attaching Labels to the Radio or Battery
Caution Do not affix additional labels to the surfaces between the radio chassis

explosion, which could cause serious injury or death.
To attach the antenna:
1.
Screw the antenna clockwise into the antenna connector.
2.
Tighten the antenna sufficiently so that it doesn’t unscrew easily. This is important as it

7 General Care
The only regular maintenance required is ensuring that the battery has sufficient charge, and
that the antenna and battery are not damaged.
7.1 Cleaning the Radio
Caution Risk of permanent damage to the radio housing! Do not clean the radio
with solvents or alcohol based products. This includes (but is not limited to)
ethylene glycol (antifreeze), propanone (acetone), ethanol (methylated spirits),
isopropyl alcohol, and pool chlorine (calcium hypochlorite).
Caution Risk of internal damage! To avoid damaging the inside of the radio, do not
allow excess liquid to enter the radio body (speaker grille, buttons, and
connectors).
Caution Health risk! Always use protective equipment (gloves, face mask) when
handling bleach.
If you need to clean the radio:
1.
Use a lint-free, dry cloth to remove surface dirt, oil, or grease.
2.
Use an alcohol-free, antibacterial wipe to disinfect the radio.
3.
Use a water-dampened, lint-free, microfibre cloth to remove any remaining dirt.
a.
If the damp cloth is ineffective, use a dilute (5 to 10%) solution of alcohol-free
dishwashing liquid in clean water, on a cloth, to remove remaining dirt.
b.
If the dishwashing liquid solution is ineffective, use a solution of one part
household bleach to two parts clean water, on a cloth, to wipe away remaining dirt.
Caution Do not immerse the radio in fluids.
7.2 Cleaning the Battery Contacts
If necessary, wipe the contacts of the battery with a dry, lint-free cloth to remove any dirt, oil,

8 Troubleshooting
For troubleshooting basic issues with the radio, see Table 8.1 below.
Issue Check the following
The radio does not power on.
l
Is the battery is firmly attached to the radio?
l
Is the battery is charged?
The battery is not charging.
l
Is the radio or battery seated properly in the charger?
l
Is the charger plugged properly into the originally supplied
power supply?
l
Are the battery and charger contacts are clean? To clean, wipe
the contacts with a dry lint-free cloth to remove any dirt, oil, or
grease.
The radio is left in an inoperable state
after a firmware update.
If an unexpected termination occurs during the
firmware update process, the radio may be left in an
inoperable state. This is not a hardware failure.
To recover the radio, repeat the firmware update process again.
To ensure the update process is successful:
l
do not interrupt the process or power cycle the radio.
l
check there sufficient battery charge so the radio does not
shut down during the process.
l
check that the programming cable is secure and connected to
the radio throughout the process.
