Panamax surge protectors and the connected equipment must be indoors in a dry location and in the same building. Do not install any
Panamax product near heat emitting appliances such as a radiator or heat register. Do not install this product where excessive
moisture is present; for example, near a bathtub, sink, pool, basement oor, sh tank, etc.
It is not uncommon for a building to be improperly grounded. In order to protect your equipment, and validate the warranty, Panamax
products must be plugged into a properly grounded 3-wire outlet. Additionally, building wiring and grounding must conform to
applicable NEC (USA) or CEC (Canada) codes for the Panamax warranty to be valid.
Do not use 2-prong adapters with this product. If an extension cord is required, use only Panamax #GEC1410. If at any time your
surge protector indicates a Line Fault, call your electrician to correct the building wiring.
POWER ON /
PROTECTION OK- (blue)
normally ON - indicates
that the power is on,
surge protector is
functioning properly,
and all connected
equipment is protected.
LINE FAULT INDICATOR-
(red) - If lit red, indicates
an improperly wired outlet
AC outlets are turned 90 degrees from one
another to accommodate different style plugs
or transformers.
Properly Connecting Your Surge Protector
To completely protect your equipment from power surges, every wire leading into or out of the equipment you want to protect must be connected to the
appropriate Panamax surge protector. Damaging lightning and power surges can get into your system through any AC power or signal line (phone lines,
grounding wires, coax cables, modem cables, etc.) connected to your electrical equipment.
Overview
Make sure you have the right surge protector to protect your electronic equipment. Panamax makes protectors for almost every type of electronic
equipment. Surge protectors that may look identical from the outside can be very different on the inside. It is very important to use the surge protector
designed for your application. Two-outlet surge protectors are not designed for use with systems having more than two AC powered components.
Panamax offers a wide range of surge protectors designed for use with larger systems. If you have any questions about which product is best for
your applications, please see our web site www.panamax.com or contact Panamax Customer Relations at 800-472-5555 (7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. PST).

• If you are adding the protector to an existing electronic pet containment system, make sure the
pet is conned before you begin the work, since the system will be turned off for a few minutes.
• Do not perform the installation while there is a lightning storm (visible lightning ashes) in the area.
• Do not install the protector in an area where there are ammable materials.
• Unplug the transmitter power transformer from the wall outlet
.
Remove any other protectors, and any ground connections to the transmitter and the loop.
The surge protector gets its ground connection from the AC outlet. Any additional ground connections will interfere
with the protective action and may also interfere with the operation of the transmitter.
STEP 3 Push the connector tab rmly down. The connector jaws will
open. Push the stripped end of the wire into the connector. Repeat
with the other three wires.
STEP 4 It is very important that the two loop wires be connected to
the two LOOP terminals of the protector as shown. The two
transmitter wires must be connected to the TRANSMITTER
terminals.
STEP 5 Plug the protector into the wall outlet, and plug the
transmitter power transformer into an AC outlet on the MD2-DF. The
transmitter should turn on.
STEP 6 If the protector is being added to an existing installed
system, check the loop signal eld. It may be necessary to adjust
the signal eld. If the lightning protector is being installed as part of
a new system, proceed with the standard signal eld adjustment
process.
STEP 1 Plan to plug the lightning protector into a grounded (3-wire)
120V AC outlet within ve feet of where you want to locate the
transmitter.
The easy way to install this is to rst connect the loop wires, and then
plug the protector into the wall.
NOTE: If possible DO NOT use an AC circuit protected with a GFCI
(Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter). Both the protector and the fence
system will function properly, but in rare cases nearby lightning strikes
may cause the GFCI to trip, and you will have to reset it.
STEP 2 Cut the loop wires near the protector and strip all four ends
back 1/4 inch.

WARNING
Before digging to bury the loop wire of your electronic dog fence, make sure that there are no buried power,
telephone, or other electrical cables in the vicinity. Many underground cables carry high voltage and digging into them, or
laying your loopwire on them, may lead to hazard from shock or electrocution.
For indoor use only. Contact your local code authority for standards and practices for the egress of the transmitter wire to
the outside.

CAUTION!
All Panamax Warranties are valid only in the United States and Canada.
CAUTION!
Audio/Video, computer and/or telephone system installations can be very complex systems, consisting of many interconnected components.
Due to the nature of electricity and surges, a single protector may not be able to completely protect complex installations. In those cases, a systematic approach using multiple protectors must be employed. Systematic
protection requires professional design.
For additional information on how to protect your system, please contact Panamax before connecting your equipment to the surge protector.
CAUTION!
