Wait at least a couple days between straightening sessions. No matter how
much you use heat protectant & conditioner, this will damage your hair
over time.
Be careful when picking up the iron and holding it near your scalp. It can
cause a painful burn.
Practice your technique. It might not be perfect the first time, but you’ll get
it right eventually.
For looser curls: Gently run your fingers through your hair and tousle it.
You’ll get a little more volume, and a relaxed, natural look.
For more hold: Put a light mist of hairspray all over your curls to keep
them sleek and tight throughout the day. If you live in a really humid area,
consider using an anti-humidity spray as well.
Steam rising from your hair is completely normal; it’s just the heat
protectant doing its job. However, if you smell burning hair or see
singeing, remove the heat immediately and move faster or find a lower
heat setting in the future.
The tighter you hold the hair in the straighteners the more precise the curl
can be.
It is very important to use heat protectant when using heat-styling
products on your hair. It will help your hair against breakage, fight frizz and
keeps your hair healthy.
Make sure your hair is clean. If it is greasy and dirty, the straightener can
damage your hair.
1. Hair should be dry and brushed, remove all tangles before using the hair
straightener.
2. Apply heat protectant. Spray lightly onto your entire head of hair. Quickly
comb your hair a second time to distribute the heat protectant evenly
3. Plug the unit into an electrical outlet. Turn on and Set the unit to your
desired temperature.
4. Section off your hair. Divide hair into manageable sections and clip the
upper layers on top of your head and out of the way. Starting with the
lowest layer of hair, separate a lock of hair 1–2 inch (2.5–5 cm) wide
5. Grab the section of hair you want to curl. Smaller sections make smaller,
tighter curls, as well as more of them. Larger sections result in bouncier,
looser curls that look a little more natural
6. Starting fairly close to the scalp (but not close enough to accidentally burn
it), clamp the iron closed and turn it back on itself a full turn. Turning the
hair over onto itself, sort of creating a loop
7. Run the iron slowly down the hair shaft to the end. Again, the slower you
move the iron, the tighter the curl. The faster you move the iron, the gentler
the wave.
5. Clamp the iron above the roots. Place your flat iron 1–3 inches (2.5–7.5
cm) above your scalp. Close the two heated sides together, with the hair
between them. Straightening too close to your scalp may damage the
roots or burn your scalp.
6. Run the iron down the length of your hair. Slowly run the iron down the
length of your hair. Keep the same amount of pressure on the hair at all
times. Do not twist or move the iron from its path, or you may end up with
crimps in your hair.
7. Repeat if necessary. If the lock of hair isn’t straight after the first try, go over
it a second time. If this keeps happening, use smaller locks of hair or raise
the iron temperature.
8. Repeat with all remaining locks. Once you’ve finished one section, unpin
the next and repeat. Work from the lowest layers of hair up to the surface.
