Cord and plug Safety
1. A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce risk of becoming entangled
in or tripping over a longer cord.
2. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use.
3. If an extension cord is used:
• The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least equal
to the electrical rating of the appliance; and
• The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the
countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped
over.
Electrical polarized plug
This unit has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other).
To reduce the risk of electric shock, the plug is intended to be
used by inserting it into the electrical outlet only one way. If the
plug does not fit securely into the outlet, reverse the plug and
re-insert. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician for
assistance. Do not modify the plug in any way.

To prevent injury, be sure to release the pressure before removing
portafilter or water reservoir cap.
releasing pressure:
after every use of the espresso maker, you must release the built-
up steam in the water reservoir before removing the portafilter or
unscrewing the water reservoir cap.
1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet and place a mug
underneath the frothing wand nozzle.
2. Turn the control knob to the STEAM position and let the steam exit
from the frothing wand nozzle.
3. When there is no more steam exiting through the nozzle, it is safe
to unscrew the water reservoir cap.
4. Turn the control knob to the OFF position.

Before first use
• remove and discard all packaging material and stickers that are not
permanent.
• remove the water reservoir, portafilter, filter, and measuring scoop. Wash
them with non-abrasive soap. Thoroughly dry and reinsert the parts. Wipe
the exterior with a damp cloth.
priming Your Espresso Maker
Before first use, the appliance must
run through an initial brew cycle with
just water. Follow the directions below
to prime the appliance:
1. Unscrew the water reservoir cap.
2. Fill the glass carafe with water up
to the four-cup mark.
3. Pour water in the water reservoir
and screw the cap back on.
4. Position an empty portafilter
under the open lock icon (
)
and fasten it into the espresso
maker by turning it to the right
until the portafilter is secured into
the closed lock icon (
).
5. Place the glass carafe directly
underneath the portafilter.
6. Plug the power cord into an
outlet.
7. Turn the control knob on the left
side of the espresso maker to the
BREW position.
8. After water is finished dispensing,
turn the control knob to the OFF
position.

The next steps are for releasing
pressure from the appliance:
1. Unplug the power cord from
the outlet and place a mug
underneath the frothing wand
nozzle.
2. Turn the control knob to the
STEAM position and let the steam
exit from the frothing wand
nozzle.

unscrew the water reservoir cap.

Making an Espresso
WatEr:
1. The carafe was designed as a
measuring cup. For two shots, fill
the carafe with water up to the
two-cup mark. For four shots, fill
the carafe with water up to the
four-cup mark.
2. Pour the water from the carafe
into the water reservoir.
3. Screw the cap tightly back onto
the water reservoir.
GroundS:
1. Place the filter into the portafilter.
2. Fill the portafilter with the
appropriate amount of grounds
using the measuring scoop. For
two shots, fill up with grounds up
to the two-cup line. For four shots,
fill up with grounds up to the four-
cup line.
notE: It’s best to use medium
grounds. Avoid fine grounds.
3. Lightly press on the grounds in
the portafilter with the bottom of
the measuring scoop.
4. Position the portafilter under the
open lock icon (
) and fasten
it into the espresso maker by
turning it to the right until the
portafilter is secured into the
closed lock icon (
).
BrEWInG:
1. When ready to brew, place the
glass carafe directly underneath
the portafilter.
2. Plug the power cord into an
outlet.
3. Turn the control knob on the left
side of the espresso maker to the
BREW position. It takes time for the
espresso maker to preheat and
espresso to start brewing.
4. After espresso is finished
dispensing, turn the control knob
to the OFF position.

nozzle.

Quick Start
Making a Cappuccino
or a Latte
WatEr:
1. The glass carafe was designed
as a measuring cup. For two
shots of cappuccino or latte, fill
the glass carafe up to the two-cup
with steam mark. For four shots of
cappuccino or latte, fill the glass
carafe up to the four-cup with
steam mark. Pour into the water
reservoir.
2. Screw the cap back onto the
water reservoir.
GroundS:
1. Place the filter into the portafilter.
2. Fill the portafilter with the
appropriate amount of grounds
using the measuring scoop. For
two shots, fill with coee grounds
up to the two-shot line. For four
shots, fill with grounds up to the
four-shot line.
notE: It’s best to use medium
grounds. Avoid fine grounds.
3. Lightly press on the grounds in
the portafilter by pushing down
on them with the bottom of the
measuring scoop.
4. Position the portafilter under the
open lock icon (
) and fasten
it into the espresso maker by
turning it to the right until the
portafilter is secured into the
closed lock icon (
).
BrEWInG:
1. When ready to brew, place the
glass carafe directly underneath
the portafilter.
2. Plug the power cord into an
outlet.
3. Turn the control knob on the left
side of the espresso maker to the
BREW position. It takes time for the
espresso maker to preheat and
espresso to start brewing.
4. If brewing two shots, disrupt the
brewing process at the two-cup
mark by turning the control knob
to the OFF position. If brewing
four shots, disrupt the brewing
process at the four-cup mark by
turning the control knob to the
OFF position.
notE: Do not wait until all water has
finished dispensing, as you must
leave enough water for frothing milk.
frotHInG MILK:
1. Fill a cup, mug, or frothing pitcher
with cold milk, leaving enough
room for the expansion of the
foam.
2. Place cup, mug, or frothing pitcher
underneath the nozzle of the
frothing wand, making sure the
nozzle is submerged in the milk.
Tilt the cup slightly for best results.
notE: Finding the right position of
the nozzle in the milk takes time
and practice.

will begin frothing.

control knob back to the OFF
position.
5. Wait until steam has finished

6. When there is no steam left, pour
frothed milk into your drink of
choice.

CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE
after Every use
To keep the espresso maker running smoothly, it is important to clean the
appliance after every use.
1. Refer to page 5 to release
pressure from the appliance
before cleaning it.
2. Remove the portafilter from the
brew head to discard coee
grounds. Lift the filter retainer clip
so that it’s placed over the filter
edge and hold it in place as you
dump the coee grounds into the
trash.
3. Rinse the portafilter with fresh
water.
WarnInG: The portafilter is not
dishwasher safe! Hand wash only.
4. Fill the glass carafe to the steam
mark with water and pour it into
the water reservoir.
5. Screw cap back onto the water
reservoir and plug the power cord
into an outlet.
6. Fill a cup or mug halfway with
water and submerge the frothing
wand nozzle into the water.
7. Turn the control knob to the
STEAM position.
8. After frothing for 30 seconds,
turn the control knob to the OFF
position.
9. Wait a few seconds for steam to
finish exiting through the nozzle,
then discard the water from the
mug.
10. Wipe the frothing wand with a
damp cloth.
11. Remove the drip tray cover and
empty water or coee from the
drip tray. Dry with a clean cloth.
12. Wipe the exterior of the appliance
with a damp cloth.

descaling
After using the espresso maker for a while, limescale will begin to build up inside
the appliance. It is important to descale the appliance every 2-3 months. If the
espresso maker is used daily, the descaling process should be done monthly.
1. Mix equal parts vinegar and water
in the carafe up to the four-cup
mark.
2. Pour the solution into the water
reservoir.
3. Insert the portafilter with an empty
filter into the brew head.
4. Place a heat resistant cup or mug
on top of the drip tray.
5. Plug in the power cord.
6. Turn the control knob to the
COFFEE position. After the mixture
finishes dispensing, discard the
solution from the cup.
7. Follow directions on page 5
to release pressure from the
appliance.
8. Mix equal parts vinegar and water
in the carafe up to the four-cup
mark.
9. Pour the solution into the water
reservoir.
10. Place a heat resistant cup or mug
underneath the frothing wand
nozzle.
11. Plug in the power cord.
12. Turn the control knob to the
STEAM position.
13. After 30 seconds, turn the control
knob to the OFF position.
14. Allow remaining water and
vinegar to sit overnight in the
water reservoir.
15. Discard vinegar through the top
opening of the espresso maker
by turning the appliance upside
down over the sink.
16. Rinse the water reservoir
thoroughly with tap water and
then pour the water back into the
sink.
17. Fill up the water reservoir with
water and begin brewing again.
This washes out any remaining
vinegar.
notE: If an odor of vinegar persists,
run another cycle with water.

seller. It is applicable to the original purchaser only and is not
transferable to a third party user. Repair or replacement of
defective parts is solely at Gourmia’s discretion. In the event
that repair isn’t possible, Gourmia will replace the product/part.
If product repair/replacement won’t suce, Gourmia has the
option of refunding the cash value of the product or component
returned.
Product defects not covered under the Warranty provisions
include normal wear and damage incurred from use or
accidental negligence, misuse of instruction specifications
or repair by unauthorized parties. Gourmia is not liable for
any incidental or consequential damages incurred by such
circumstances.
