8 DO NOT use tools if damaged.
9 Maintain tools to ensure that they are in an adequate condition for safe use and optimum performance.
9 Ensure that a vehicle that has been raised by a jack is adequately supported. Use axle stands.
8 DO NOT attempt to start or move a vehicle whilst in gear and with timing devices fitted.
9 Wear suitable clothing to avoid snagging. DO NOT wear jewellery. Tie back long hair.
9 Account for all tools, parts and components being used. DO NOT leave these in or near the engine. Return tools to suitable storage after use.
9 When not in use, store in a safe, dry childproof place.
9 Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the work area.

9 When timing an engine, always prevent the engine from being turned over. Use a notice and / or inhibit the engine.
WARNING! Incorrect or out of phase camshaft timing can result in contact between the valve head and the piston crown. This will cause
damage to the engine.
2. INTRODUCTION
Designed to t the new generation of Ford EcoBlue ‘Panther’ belt in oil diesel engines. Contains the special tooling essential for locking
the engine in its timing position. Supplied in a foam tray with a warning tag and full instructions.

5. OPERATION
5.1. CHECKING THE BELT TIMING
5.1.1. Remove the auxiliary drive belt, crankshaft pulley and timing belt cover.
NOTE: on some variants the drive belt will have to be cut o, all auxiliary belts will have to be replaced regardless of variant. The
timing cover will require replacement as these cannot be reused.
Rotate the Crankshaft in the normal direction of rotation until the mark on the Crankshaft Gear and the two marks on the Intermediate
Gear are aligned. (g.1)
NOTE: A number of rotations of the Crankshaft may be required to achieve this position as the marks align every 14th full revolution.
5.1.2. Locate VS5285.01 Crankshaft Setting Tool into the recessed prole of the Crankshaft Sprocket, ensuring that the 3 teeth are fully located
in the prole of the sprocket and that the at area of the tool is located against the guide sleeve that protrudes from the engine. (g.2)
5.1.3. Insert the two VS5285.02 Camshaft Setting Pins through the holes located at the 12 o’clock position in the Camshaft Sprockets and
into the apertures of the Cylinder Head (g.3).
5.1.4. If it is not possible to fully install the Camshaft Setting Pins, the engine timing position may need to be adjusted.
5.1.5. This kit also includes a third pin which can be used as a Tensioner Retaining Pin (Fig.4).
5.1.6. To retain the tensioner for timing belt removal and installation, use an 8mm Hex Key to rotate the belt tensioner in a clockwise direction
to release the belt.
5.1.7. Retain the Tensioner in this position using the one remaining Setting Pin (Fig.4).
5.1.8. Remove and discard the Toothed Belt and Toothed Belt Tensioner.
5.2. INSTALLATION
5.2.1. Ensure the engine is in its timed position using the Camshaft Setting Pins and the Crankshaft Alignment Tool .
5.2.2. Fit a new timing belt tensioner and tighten the securing bolt to 25 Nm.
5.2.3. Fit the new timing belt in a clockwise direction starting at the intermediate sprocket.
5.2.4. Remove all tooling and reassemble in the reverse order of dismantling.
NOTE: always reassemble using a new crankshaft pulley bolt.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be
sorted, taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment. When
the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain any uids (if applicable) into approved
containers and dispose of the product and uids according to local regulations.
