STARTING THE ELECTRIC LAWN TRACTOR (Fig. 16)
Before you begin to mow your grass, we strongly encourage you to find a large, level, and open area to practice operating
the tractor using the instructions that follow. Once you can comfortably and reliably perform each of these maneuvers,
you are ready to begin mowing.
WARNING: Clear the area of bystanders before operating the tractor. If anyone enters the mowing area, stop
immediately and do not continue mowing until the bystanders leave the area.
DANGER: Avoid sudden starts, stops, and turns, as well as excessive speed, especially when first learning to operate
the tractor. The tractor can spin rapidly, which may cause you to lose control and could result in death, serious personal
injury and/or damage to the tractor. Press the driving speed adjustment button to set the lowest speed level (refer to
“To Select Your Driving Speed Level” in this manual) to limit the amount of speed available until you are fully capable of
operating the tractor in all situations.
1. Sit on the tractor seat.
2. Insert the safety key.
3. Fully depress the parking-brake pedal by foot and simultaneously press the start/stop button for 3 seconds to
illuminate the LCD screen.
NOTE: If the parking-brake pedal is set at the parking-brake position, you need to only press the start/stop button
for 3 seconds to illuminate the LCD screen and then release the parking-brake pedal before driving the tractor.
4. The tractor status indicator will shine green, which means the tractor is ready to drive.
NOTE: When you leave the seat, the tractor status indicator will turn off. In this case, sit back on the seat and fully
depress the parking-brake pedal to make the tractor status indicator shine green.
5. Set the appropriate driving speed and blade speed by pressing the driving speed adjustment button and blade speed
adjustment button respectively.
NOTE: It is always recommended to start the tractor in the lowest driving speed.
6. Depress the accelerator pedal to drive the tractor:
To drive forward: push the direction control lever forward in the “D” direction.
To drive in reverse: pull the direction control lever backward in the “R” direction.
NOTE: When the accelerator pedal is released the tractor will not continue to coast like a typical gas-powered car.
Instead, the electric brake will be applied and the tractor will stop fast.
NOTE: When switching between forward and reverse during driving, move the direction control lever directly from
one end to the other without stopping in the neutral position, otherwise the tractor may stop moving.
NOTICE: When the tractor is restarted on a slope, the moment the accelerator pedal is depressed, the tractor will
keep still on the slope without sliding along the slope. Once the accelerator pedal is depressed harder, the tractor
will start driving forward normally. This is a function of the Slope Assist feature for safe starting of EGO electric lawn
tractor.
7. Pull the PTO switch to start the cutting blades.
NOTE: The cutting blades could be started at any time once the LCD screen is fully illuminated and the direction
control lever is not pulled backward in the “R” direction. To turn on the blades while driving the tractor in reverse,
refer to the section “TURNING BLADES ON WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE” in this manual.
