GAS AND OiL FILL-UP f "_
IMPORTANT:This unit isshippedwithoutgasolineor oil inthe engine.
Becertainto serviceenginewithgasolineandoilas instructedinthis
sectionbeforestartingor runningyourmachine.
Oil (one 18 ounce bottle shipped with unit)
FirstTime Use
1. Removeoil fill dipstick (G). See Figure10.
2. Withthe moweron levelground,emptyentirecontentsof oil bottle
providedintothe engineoil fill (H).
3. Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Use4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceedsthe requirementsfor API
servicecategorySF,SG,SH,SJ or later.Alwayscheckthe APIservice
labelonthe oilcontainerto be sureitincludesthe lettersSF,SG,SH,
SJ or higher.
Outdoortemperaturesdeterminethe properoilviscosityfor the engine.
Usethechartto selectthe best viscosityfor the outdoortemperature
rangeexpected.

* Below40°F(4°C)the use of SAE30 will resultin hardstarting.
**Above80°F(27°C)the use of 10W-30maycauseincreasedoil
consumption.Checkoil levelmorefrequently.
1. Checkthe oil withthe enginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickand wipeit clean.
3. Insertand tightenthe oil fill dipstick.Removeit to checkthe oil
level.SeeFigure10.
4. If the oil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimit mark on the dipstick,
removethe oil fill dipstick,and fill with the recommendedoil to the
upperlimitmark(J). Do notoverfill.
5. Reinstallthe oil fill dipstick.
Gasoline
Do notuse unapprovedgasolines,such as E85.Do not mixoil in
I gasolineor modifyengineto runonalternatefuels.Thiswill damage
_theenginecomponentsandvoid the engine warranty.
Fuelmustmeet these requirements:
Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.

A minimumof 87 octane/87AKI (91RON).
Gasolinewith up to 10%ethanol(gasohol)or upto 15%MTBE
(methyltertiarybutylether)is acceptable.
Refuelina well-ventilatedareawiththe enginestopped.Ifthe engine
hasbeenrunning,allowitto cool first. Neverrefuelthe engineinsidea
buildingwheregasolinefumesmayreachflamesor sparks.

Gasolineis highlyflammableandexplosive,andyoucan be
burnedor seriouslyinjuredwhenrefueling.Stopengineand keep
heat,sparks,and flameaway.Refuelonly outdoors.Wipe upspills
immediately.
Ifyourequipmentwill be usedon an infrequentorintermittentbasis,
pleasereferto the Off SeasonStoragesectionfor additionalinforma-
tion regardingfuel deterioration.
NOTE:Fuelcandamagepaintand sometypesof plastic.Becareful
notto spill fuelwhenfilling yourfueltank.
Neverusestaleorcontaminatedgasolineor oil/gasolinemixture.
Avoidgettingdirt orwaterin the fueltank.
1. Removethe fuel tankcap.
2. Fillthe fuel tankwith fuel. To allowforexpansionof the fuel, do
notfill abovethe bottomof the fuel tankneck.Do notoverfill.
Wipe upspilledfuel beforestartingtheengine.
3. Installthe fuel tank capand tighten it until it clicks.
4. Movelawnmowerat least 10feet awayfromthe fuel container/
sourceandsitebeforestartingthe engine.
Besurenooneotherthan theoperatoris standingnearthe lawn
mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrun engine
indoorsorin enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas. Engineexhaust
containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas.Keephands,
feet, hairand looseclothingawayfrom any movingpartson engine
andlawn mower.
