Read this operator's manual and safety rules before operating your lawn mower. Compare the illustration in Figure
8 with your lawn mower to familiarize yourself with the location of various controls and adjustments. Save this

WARNING: The operation of any lawn mower
can result in foreign objects being thrown into
the eyes, which can damage your eyes
severely. Always wear safety glasses while
operating the mower, or while performing any
adjustments or repairs on it.
EngineControls
See the separate engine manual for the location and
function of the controls on the engine.
BladeControl
The blade control is located on the upper handle of the
mower. The blade control must be depressed in order
to operate the unit. Release blade control to stop
engine and blade.
WARNING: This blade control mechanism is
_, a safety device. Never attempt to bypass its
operations
RecoilStarter
The recoil starter is attached to the right lower handle.
Stand behind the unit and pull the recoil starter to start
the unit. See Figure 8.
CuttingHeightAdjustmentLevers
These levers are located on each wheel and they are
used to adjust the cutting height. All four levers have to
be at the same relative position to ensure a uniform cut.

DriveControl
The drive control is located on the upper handle.
Squeeze the drive control against the upper handle to
engage drive system. Release it to disengage the drive
system in order to stop, slow down, or backup.
MulchingBaffle
Instead of collecting grass clippings ina grass catcher,
this mower has the option of recirculating the clippings
back to the lawn. This is called mulching. Remove the
grass catcher and the side-discharge chute from the
mower, and operate with the mulching baffle only for
this purpose.
StoppingEngine
Release blade control to stop the engine and the
blade.
Disconnect spark plug wire and ground itto a bolt
on the engine.
