BEFORE FIRST USE
Remove any packaging and promotional material
from your kettle and position it on a stable, secure,
dry and level work surface away from the edge.
Before connecting to a power source, make sure
your mains supply voltage is the same as the one
indicated on the appliance. Connect the plug to a
suitable power outlet and make sure that the power
cord does not overhang the work surface. Excess
power cord can be stored in the power base.
Remove the kettle from the power base and open
the lid. Fill your kettle to the maximum mark and
close the lid.
Place your kettle back onto the power base. Switch
your kettle on, allow it to boil then discard the water.
Repeat twice. This will remove any residue left over
from the manufacturing process.
USING YOUR KETTLE
If this kettle is lled above the maximum level
mark, hot water may be ejected from the spout
during boiling. Beware of steam coming from
the spout or lid especially during relling. Never
open the lid when the kettle is boiling.
1. With your kettle switched off, plug the power
base into a suitable power outlet.
2. Remove your kettle from the power base before
lling it with water.
3. Fill your kettle with water. You can ll it through
the spout or by opening the lid. Don’t overll
your kettle and always ensure that there is
sufcient water in your kettle for it to operate
correctly. This is approximately 250ml or 1
teacup full. Always check the water level when
your kettle is positioned on its power base.
4. If opened previously, close the lid and then
switch your kettle on. Make sure that the lid is
correctly closed to ensure safe operation. As the
water heats up the water level illumination will
change from white to red.
5. When the water reaches boiling point, your
kettle will switch off automatically and the water
level window illumination will switch to the ‘still
hot‘ illumination.
6. You may also switch your kettle off manually at
any time by moving the switch to the off position.
Always use caution when lifting or carrying
your kettle when it is full of boiling water and
when pouring it.
ENERGY SAVING HINTS AND TIPS
A Breville
®
kettle, if used correctly, is a very energy
efcient device. Why not try some of these energy
saving tips:
Only boil the water you need. Overlling your
kettle by one cup is the equivalent to using an
energy saving light bulb for one hour!
It is not always necessary to re-boil your kettle.
For example, one litre of water will still be at
90°C after ve minutes - the perfect temperature
for a cup of coffee.
IF THE KETTLE BOILS DRY
If the kettle is operated with insufcient water a built
in fail-safe device will automatically switch it off.
Unplug your kettle and allow it to cool. When it
has cooled down sufciently the safety device
will reset itself.
Once the safety device has reset, rell your
kettle with cold water and use it as normal.
LIGHTING SEQUENCE
The lights used to illuminate your kettle are light
emitting diodes (LEDs). The amount of energy used
by LEDs is very small—a fraction of the energy used
by a normal light bulb.
STILL HOT ILLUMINATION
After boiling, the illumination of your kettle will
remain red indicating that the water is still hot
enough to make a hot beverage such as tea or
instant coffee. The ‘still hot’ illumination is active
when the water temperature is above 80ºC. When
the temperature of the water falls below 80ºC, the
illumination will switch off.
Kettle Illumination
Kettle on/off switch OFF, before boiling. No illumination unless the temperature of the water
is above 80ºC
Kettle on/off switch ON The illumination changes from white to red
(assuming that the water is cool) to indicate the
progress of the boiling cycle. The redder the
illumination, the closer the water is to boiling.
Kettle on/off switch is switched to ON to boil or
reheat water that is already hot.
If you switch your kettle on when the water inside is
already partially heated, the illumination colour will
be appropriate to the temperature of the water. The
illumination will continue getting redder as your kettle
reheats the water to boiling point.
Kettle on/off switch OFF, after boiling. The illumination will remain red until the temperature
of the water has fallen below 80ºC. This saves you
from reboiling hot water.
