Changing the Deck Belt
,_ WARNING:Besure to shut the engine
off, removeignition key, disconnect the
spark plug wire(s) and ground against
the engine to prevent unintended starting
before removing the belt.
Allbelt on yourtractorare subjectto wearandshouldbe
replacedif any signsof wearare present.
IMPORTANT:The V-beltfoundon yourtractorare
speciallydesignedto engageand disengagesafely.A
substitute(non-OEM)V-beltcan bedangerousby not
disengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine,
usefactory approvedbelts.
Tochangeorreplacethe deck belt onyourtractor,
proceedas follows:
1. Lowerthe deck by movingthedeck liftleverintothe
bottomnotchon the right fender.
2. Removethe beltguardsby removingtheself-tapping
screwsthatfastenthem to the deck.
3. Removethe beltkeeperrodfromaroundthe engine
pulley.
4. On the 42-inchdeck only, loosenbut do notremove,
the idlerpulleynuts.Thiswill enablethebelt to be
easilyremovedfrom the idler pulleys.See Fig. 6-7on
the previouspage.

5. Removethe deck belt fromaroundall pulleys,including
the deckidlerpulley.
6. Routethe newbelt as shownin andFig.6-8, 6-9 or
6-10.
7. Remountthe beltguardsremovedearlier.
