The purpose of safety symbols is to attract your attention to
possible dangers. The safety symbols, and their explanations,
deserve your careful attention and understanding. The safety
warnings do not by themselves eliminate any danger. The
instructions or warnings they give are not substitutes for proper
accident prevention measures.

operation or maintenance of the equipment.

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING
• Carefully read and understand the operator's manual of the unit
that powers this attachment.
• Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and
proper use of the unit.
• Do not operate this unit when tired, ill or under the influence of
alcohol, drugs or medication.
• Children must not operate the unit. Teens must be accompanied
and guided by an adult.
• All guards and safety attachments must be installed properly
before operating the unit.
• Inspect the unit before use. Replace damaged parts. Check for
fuel leaks. Make sure all fasteners are in place and secure.
Replace parts that are cracked, chipped, or damaged in any
way. Do not operate the unit with loose or damaged parts.
• Carefully inspect the area before starting the unit. Remove all
debris and hard or sharp objects such as glass, wire, etc.
• Be aware of the risk of injury to the head, hands and feet.
• Clear the area of children, bystanders and pets; keep them
outside a 50-foot (15 m) radius, at a minimum. Even then, they are
still at risk from thrown objects. Encourage bystanders to wear
eye protection. If you are approached, stop the unit immediately.
WHILE OPERATING
• Wear safety glasses or goggles that meet current ANSI
standards and are marked as such. Wear ear/hearing protection
when operating this unit. Wear a face or dust mask if the
operation is dusty.
• Wear heavy long pants, boots, gloves and a long sleeve shirt. Do
not wear loose clothing, jewelry, short pants, sandals or go
barefoot. Secure hair above shoulder level.
• Make sure the attachment is not in contact with anything before
starting the unit.
• Use the unit only in daylight or good artificial light.
• Use the right tool. Only use this tool for its intended purpose.
• Always hold the unit with both hands when operating. Keep a
firm grip on both handles or grips.
• Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Take
extra care when working on steep slopes or inclines.
SAFETY WARNINGS FOR GAS UNITS
• Store fuel only in containers specifically designed and approved
for the storage of such materials.
• Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the
tank. Never remove the fuel tank cap or add fuel when the
engine is hot. Always loosen the fuel tank cap slowly to relieve
any pressure in the tank before fueling.
• Always mix and add fuel in a clean, well-ventilated outdoor area
where there are no sparks or flames. DO NOT smoke.
• Never operate the unit without the fuel cap securely in place.
• Avoid creating a source of ignition for spilled fuel. Wipe up any
spilled fuel from the unit immediately, before starting the unit.
Move the unit at least 30 ft. (9.1 m) from the fueling source and
site before starting the engine. DO NOT smoke.
• Never start or run the unit inside a closed room or building.
Breathing exhaust fumes can kill. Operate this unit only in a well
ventilated outdoor area.
• IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS •
WARNING:
When using the unit, all safety rules must be
followed. Please read these instructions before operating
the unit in order to ensure the safety of the operator and any
bystanders. Please keep these instructions for later use.
WARNING:
Gasoline is highly flammable and its vapors
can explode if ignited. Take the following precautions:

SAFETY WARNINGS FOR ELECTRIC UNITS
• CORD SETS: Make sure your cord set is in good condition.
When using a cord set, be sure to use a cord that is heavy
enough to carry the current that your unit will draw. An
undersized cord set will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in
loss of power and overheating. See the operator’s manual for
the unit that will power this attachment for the recommended
cord size.
• Inspect all extension cords and the unit power connection
periodically. Look closely for deterioration, cuts or cracks in the
insulation. Also inspect the connections for damage. Replace
the cords if any defects or damage appear.
• Prevent disconnection of the powerhead from the extension
cord during operation by using a plug-receptacle retaining strap,
connector, or by making a knot (Fig. A).
• Avoid dangerous environments. Never operate your unit in damp
or wet conditions. Moisture is a shock hazard.
• Do not use the unit in the rain. Do not use in or around water.
• Do not handle the plug or unit with wet hands or standing on
any wet surfaces.
• Do not leave the unit plugged in when not in use, changing
attachments or while being serviced.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of electrical shock, use
only extension cords approved for outdoor use, such as an
extension cord of cord type SW-A, SOW-A, STW-A, STOW-
A, SJW-A, SJOW-A, SJTW-W or SJTOW-A. Extension
cords are available from your local retailer. Use only round-
jacketed extension cords approved for outdoor use.

WARNING: Small objects can be propelled at high
speed, causing injury. Keep away from the rotating rotor.
• KEEP BYSTANDERS AWAY
WARNING: Keep all bystanders, especially children
and pets, at least 50 feet (15 m) from the operating area.
• ROTATING IMPELLER CAN CAUSE SEVERE INJURY
WARNING: Stop the engine/motor and allow the
impeller to stop before installing or changing nozzles,
or before cleaning or performing any maintenance. Do
not put hands or any other objects into the fan housing.
Keep hands and feet away from a rotating impeller.

OTHER SAFETY WARNINGS
• All service, other than the maintenance procedures described in
this manual, should be performed by a Sears or other qualified
service dealer.
• Before inspecting, servicing, cleaning, storing, transporting or
replacing any parts on the unit:
1. Stop the unit.
2. Make sure all moving parts have stopped.
3. Allow the unit to cool.
4. For gas-powered units, disconnect the spark plug wire. For
electric-powered units, disconnect the unit from the power source.
• Never store the unit with fuel in the tank, inside a building where
fumes may reach an open flame (pilot lights, etc.) or sparks
(switches, electrical motors, etc.).
• Be sure to secure the unit while transporting.
• Store the unit in a dry place, secured or at a height to prevent
unauthorized use or damage. Keep out of the reach of children.
• Never douse or squirt the unit with water or any other liquid.
Keep handles dry, clean and free from debris. Clean after each
use, see Cleaning and Storage instructions.
• Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use them to
instruct other users. If you loan this unit to others, also loan
them these instructions.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
• Keep hands, face, and feet away from all moving parts. Do not
touch or try to stop moving parts.
• Do not operate the unit faster than the speed needed to do the job.
Do not run the unit at high speed when not in use.
• Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the unit towards you.
• DO NOT force the unit. It will do a better, safer job when used at
the intended rate.
• Always stop the unit when operation is delayed or when walking
from one location to another.
• If you strike or become entangled with a foreign object, stop the
unit immediately and check for damage. Do not operate before
repairing damage. Do not operate the unit with loose or
damaged parts.
• Use only original equipment manufacturer (OEM) replacement
parts and accessories for this unit, as listed in the Parts List
section of this manual. Use of any other parts or accessories
could lead to serious injury to the user, or damage to the unit,
and void the warranty.
• Keep the air intake opening clear of debris.
• Never operate the unit without the nozzle installed.
• Never attempt to clear a clogged air intake opening while the
unit is running.
• If the unit starts to vibrate abnormally, stop the unit immediately.
Inspect the unit for the cause of the vibration. Vibration is
generally an indicator of trouble.

INSTALLING A NOZZLE
1. Align the button on the inside of the nozzle with the groove on
the housing (Fig. 1).
2. Push the nozzle onto the housing and turn the nozzle clockwise
until it locks into place (Fig. 2).
NOTE: The button should face up when the nozzle is properly
installed.
REMOVING A NOZZLE
1. Turn the nozzle counterclockwise approximately 45˚ until the
button unlocks from the housing (Fig. 2).
2. Pull the nozzle off of the housing (Fig. 2).
WARNING:
To prevent serious personal injury or
damage to the unit, make sure the nozzle is properly
installed before operating the unit.
WARNING:
To prevent serious personal injury, take the
following steps before installing or removing nozzles:
• Stop the unit and allow the impeller to come to a
complete stop
• Disconnect the spark plug wire or disconnect the unit from
the power source before installing or removing nozzles.

OPERATING THE CONVERTIBLE™ COUPLER SYSTEM
NOTE: To make installing or removing the attachment easier, place
the unit on the ground or on a work bench.
Installing the Attachment
NOTE: Remove the protective cap and gray spacer from the upper
and lower shafts prior to assembling the attachment.
1. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen (Fig. 3).
2. While firmly holding the attachment, push it straight into the
Convertible™ coupler until the release button snaps firmly into
the primary hole (Fig. 5).
NOTE: Aligning the release button with the guide recess will help
installation (Fig. 4).
3. Turn the knob clockwise to tighten (Fig. 3).
For decorative edging with the line head trimmer attachment, lock
the release button of the attachment into the 90° hole (Fig. 3).
Removing the Attachment
1. Turn the knob counterclockwise to loosen (Fig. 3).
2. Press and hold the release button (Fig. 4).
3. While firmly holding the upper shaft housing, pull the attachment
straight out of the Convertible™ coupler (Fig. 5).

CAUTION:
Before operating this unit, be sure that the
release button is fully snapped into the primary hole (Fig. 5),
and that the knob (Fig. 3) is securely tightened.
WARNING:
To avoid serious personal injury and
damage to the unit, shut the unit off before removing or
installing an attachment.
CAUTION: These attachments are to be snapped into
the primary hole only. Using the wrong hole could lead to
personal injury or damage to the unit.

HOLDING THE UNIT
• Stand in the operating position (Fig. 6).
• Hold the shaft grip with the right hand. Keep the right arm
slightly bent.
• Hold the handle with the left hand. Keep the left arm straight.
• Hold the unit at waist level.
WARNING:
Always wear eye, hearing, hand, foot and
body protection to reduce the risk of injury when operating
this unit.
TIPS FOR BEST RESULTS
• Make sure the unit is not directed at anybody or any loose
debris before starting the unit.
• To reduce the risk of hearing loss associated with sound level(s),
hearing protection is required.
• Operate power equipment only at reasonable hours— not early
in the morning or late at night when people might be disturbed.
Comply with times listed in local ordinances. Usual
recommendations are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through
Saturday.
• To reduce noise levels, limit the number of pieces of equipment
used at any one time.
• To reduce noise levels, operate power blowers at the lowest
possible speed to do the job.
• Use rakes and brooms to loosen debris before blowing.
• In dusty conditions, slightly dampen surfaces or use a mister
attachment when water is available.
• Conserve water by using power blowers instead of hoses for
many lawn and garden applications, including areas such as
screens, patios, grills, porches, and gardens.
• Watch out for children, pets, open windows or freshly washed
cars, and blow debris safely away.
• Clean up after using blowers and other equipment. Dispose of
debris appropriately.
• Use the flare nozzle for large, hard surfaces such as driveways
and sidewalks (Fig. 7).
• Use the concentrator nozzle for hard to reach places, such as
corners in a garage, or to control dust in a dust-laden
environment (Fig. 8).

CLEANING AND STORAGE
CLEANING
Use a small brush to clean the outside of the unit. Do not use strong
detergents. Household cleaners that contain aromatic oils such as
pine and lemon, and solvents such as kerosene, can damage plastic.
Wipe off any moisture with a soft cloth.
STORAGE
• Never store a fueled unit where fumes may reach an open flame
or spark.
• Allow the engine to cool before storing.
• Lock up the unit to prevent unauthorized use or damage.
• Store the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area.
• Store the unit out of the reach of children.
Short-term Storage for Gas-Powered Units (1-2 weeks)
1. Store the unit in a horizontal position. If this is not possible, store
the unit vertically with the engine at the top.
Long-term Storage
1. Thoroughly clean the unit and inspect it for any loose or
damaged parts. Repair or replace damaged parts and tighten
loose screws, nuts or bolts.
Long-term Storage for Gas-Powered Units
1. Remove the fuel cap, tip the unit and drain the fuel into an
approved container.
2. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stalls. This ensures
that all fuel has been drained from the carburetor.
3. Allow the engine to cool. Remove the spark plug and put 5 drops
of any high quality motor oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter rope
slowly to distribute the oil. Reinstall the spark plug.
Preparing a Gas-Powered Unit for Use after Long-term Storage
1. Remove the spark plug and drain all of the oil from the cylinder.
NOTE: Do not use fuel that has been stored for more than 30 days.
Dispose of old fuel according to federal, state and local regulations.
WARNING:
To avoid serious personal injury, always stop
the unit and allow it to cool before cleaning or maintaining
the unit.

• Evite el peligro de incendio debido a combustible derramado.
Limpie de inmediato todo combustible derramado de la unidad
antes de encenderla. Antes de arrancar el motor, aleje la unidad
a una distancia de 30 pies (9.1 m) como mínimo del lugar de
abasto de combustible. NO fume.
• No arranque ni use nunca la unidad dentro de una habitación o
edificio cerrados. Inhalar los gases de escape puede ser fatal.

INSTALACIÓN DE LA BOQUILLA
1. Alinee el botón en el interior de la boquilla con la ranura en la
caja (Fig. 1).
2. Empuje la boquilla en la caja y gírela en el sentido de las agujas
del reloj hasta que caiga en su lugar (Fig. 2).
NOTA: El botón debe quedar hacia arriba cuando la boquilla está
debidamente instalada.
RETIRAR LA BOQUILLA
1. Gire la boquilla en el sentido contrario a las agujas del reloj
aproximadamente a 45º hasta que el botón se destrabe de de la
caja (Fig. 2).
2. Hale la boquilla fuera de la caja (Fig. 2).
ADVERTENCIA:
A fin de evitar lesiones personales

esté debidamente instalada antes de operar la unidad.

OPERAR EL SISTEMA DE ACOPLADOR CONVERTIBLE™
NOTA: Para facilitar la instalación o remoción de un accesorio,
coloque la unidad sobre el suelo o sobre un banco de trabajo.
Instalación del accesorio
NOTA: Para ensamblar el accesorio, quite la tapa protectora y el
espaciador gris de los ejes superior e inferior.
1. Para aflojar, gire la perilla en sentido contrario a las agujas del
reloj (Fig. 3).
2. Mientras sostiene el accesorio con firmeza, empuje en línea recta
hacia dentro del acoplador Convertible™ hasta que el botón de
desconexión encaje firmemente en el agujero principal (Fig. 5).
NOTA: Alinear el botón de desconexión con el agujero guía facilitará
la instalación (Fig. 4).
3. Para apretar, gire la perilla en el sentido de las agujas del reloj
(Fig. 3).
Para hacer cortes (orillados) decorativos con el accesorio de corte
del cabezal de línea, trabe el botón de desconexión del accesorio
en el interior del orificio de 90° (Fig. 3).
Cómo quitar el accesorio
1. Para aflojar, gire la perilla en sentido contrario a las agujas del
reloj (Fig. 3).
2. Oprima y sostenga el botón de desconexión (Fig. 4).
3. A la vez que sujeta firmemente la caja del eje superior, saque el
accesorio del acoplador Convertible™ (Fig. 5).

SUJETAR LA UNIDAD
• Párese en la posición de operación (Fig. 6).
• Sostenga la empuñadura del eje con la mano derecha.
Mantenga el brazo derecho ligeramente flexionado.
• Sujete el mango con la mano izquierda. Mantenga el brazo
izquierdo recto.
• Sujete la unidad a la altura de la cintura.
ADVERTENCIA:
Al operar esta unidad, lleve siempre
puesta protección para los ojos, oídos, pies y cuerpo a fin
de reducir el riesgo de lesiones.
OPERACIÓN
RECOMENDACIONES PARA MEJORES RESULTADOS
• Asegúrese que la unidad no apunte hacia desechos sueltos o
personas antes de ponerla en marcha.
• Se requiere el uso de protección auditiva para reducir el riesgo
de pérdida auditiva asociada con los niveles de sonido.
• Opere el equipo solamente durante horas razonables — no muy
temprano en las mañanas ni muy tarde en las noches, cuando la
gente se pueda molestar. Acate las horas detalladas en las
ordenanzas locales. La recomendación usual es de 9:00 am a
5:00 pm, de lunes a sábado.
• Limite el número de equipos que se usen simultáneamente, para
reducir los niveles de ruido.
• Opere las sopladoras motorizadas a la menor velocidad posible,
para hacer el trabajo y reducir los niveles de ruido.
• Use rastrillos y escobas para esparcir los desechos antes de
soplarlos.
• Remoje ligeramente las superficies o use un aditamento para
rociar cuando haya agua disponible y se encuentre bajo
condiciones polvorientas.
• Conserve agua mediante el uso de sopladoras motorizadas en
vez de usar mangueras para muchas de las aplicaciones de
prados y ajardinado, incluyendo áreas tales como canales,
mallas, patios, parrillas, pórticos y jardines.
• Tenga cuidado con los niños, animales domésticos, ventanas
abiertas y automóviles recién lavados, y sople los desechos en
forma segura.
• Limpie después de usar las sopladoras y otros equipos.
Deposite los desechos en recipientes para la basura.
• Use la boquilla ancha para superficies grandes y duras como
entradas de autos y aceras (Fig. 7).
• Use la boquilla concentradora para áreas difíciles de alcanzar,
como esquinas en un garage, o para controlar el polvo en un
ambiente cargado de polvo (Fig. 8).

Use un cepillo pequeño para limpiar la unidad por fuera. No utilice
detergentes fuertes. Los limpiadores caseros que contienen aceites
esenciales, por ejemplo, de pino y limón, y los solventes como el
queroseno, pueden dañar el plástico. Seque la humedad con un
paño suave.
ALMACENAMIENTO
• No guarde nunca la unidad con combustible en el tanque en un
lugar en el que los gases puedan ponerse en contacto con una
llama expuesta o chispas.
• Espere a que el motor se enfríe para guardar la unidad.
• Guarde la unidad bajo llave para evitar su uso no autorizado o daño.
• Guarde la unidad en un lugar seco y bien ventilado.
• Guarde la unidad fuera del alcance de los niños.
Almacenamiento a corto plazo para las unidades que funcionan
con gasolina (1 a 2 semanas)
1. Guarde la unidad en posición horizontal. Si no es posible,
guarde la unidad en posición vertical con el motor para arriba.
Almacenamiento a largo plazo
1. Limpie bien la unidad y compruebe que no haya piezas sueltas
o dañadas. Repare o reemplace las piezas dañadas y apriete los
tornillos, tuercas o pernos flojos.
Almacenamiento a largo plazo para las unidades que funcionan
con gasolina
1. Quítele la tapa al tanque de combustible, incline la unidad y
vacíe el combustible en un contenedor aprobado.
2. Arranque el motor y déjelo funcionar hasta que se cale. Con
esto se asegura vaciar todo el combustible del carburador.
3. Espere a que el motor se enfríe. Quítele la bujía y eche 5 gotas de
cualquier aceite de motor de alta calidad en el cilindro. Tire
despacio de la cuerda de arranque para distribuir el aceite. Vuelva
a poner la bujía.
Preparar una unidad que funciona con gasolina para usarla
después de un almacenamiento prolongado
1. Saque la bujía y vacíe todo el aceite que está en el cilindro.
NOTA: No use un combustible que haya estado almacenado por más
de 30 días. Deseche el aceite viejo, de conformidad con las
regulaciones federales, estatales y locales.
ADVERTENCIA:
Para evitar lesiones personales graves,
apague siempre el motor y deje que se enfríe antes de
limpiar o dar mantenimiento a la unidad.
