6.Technicaldescription
Beforegoingintothesubjeels of maintenanceand
koubleshootiag,we wouldliketoprovidea brief
descriptiononlhe fu_lional unitsofthegasequipment,
whichwillmakefor a better understandingofthese items.
6.1 The gas equipment (Fig. D)
The gasconnector(D14) isconnectedto a manualshut
offvalve (D13),normally"to be left open(handtein
alignmenlwithlhe gasflow).
Thevalve(D13)isconnectedto thecombinationcontrol
valve(seefollowingitem) bya union(D15).
If the Refrigeratoristo be remoeedfor maintenanceor the
like,closethevalve and uncoupletheunion.The valvewill
keepthe endoftheconnectorsealed,thus maintaining
thegassupplysystemoperational
ToreconnecttheRelr_gerator,simplyhook-uptheunion
again,openthe valveand usedetergentto checkfor
leaksat Eneunionandadjoining fittings.The unionshould
notbe overl[ghtened.Tighlenfirm_ withthehand and
thena larther10 or 20 degreeswithanopen-endwrench,
oruntilthereareno leaks.
6.2 Combination control valve (Fig. G)
Theconlrolhasseveralfunctions.Theinlet(G2) carries
a gumfiller Ioremovecedaincontaminantsfromthe
gas.Alterthelilter comesa se[eolorvalvewithits shaft
(G3) withtwo positions:openorclosed.Usethisto turn
off the Refrigerator,sinceit isnotenoughto turnthe
thermostat(G4)down!othewarmeslposition.
Togetherwiththeselectorcomesthe flame-failure
dark>e,connectedby(GT)tothelhermocouple(H1) at
theburner.II theflameshouldgooulfor anyreason, Ibis
willcutoff thegassupplywithinaboulforty seconds,
prevenlinglurther amountsof unbumtgasfrom
escaping.
To tightIha burner, it is necessary to keep the gas supply
open manually, by depressing (G3), until the flame
ignite& Within 3 to 4 seconds,the frame will heat the
thermocouple (H1) enough Io bold the gas passage
open.
6.3. Testing the flame-failure device (Fig. C)
ThedeviceisfaiPsafe:any malfunction,suchas poor

Theflamewil_gooutbulthegassupplywillcontinueto
flow.
c) Listen carefully.In about 30 to 40 seconds youwill
hear a slight but very dislinct "c1_c_€'to signify that the
valve hasclosed.
6.4 The thermostatic valve and the bypass
(Fig. G)
Thetemperatureissensedviaa coppercapillarytube
(Gt) risingbehindtheRel_gerator(D3)andw_hthe tip
reachingintoa receplacleon Iheevaporator(El).
Thelemperatureo!the tipandthepositronoftheshaft
(G4) causethepassageotgas tothe bume_toopento a
greateror lesserextenl.Whenreinstallingthe capillary
tube altera repair,makesurethat itfits properlyintothe
_eceptacleandcaulkthe cutlet{D2)with sealing
compound,

This gas ismeteredbyan orifice[nthe bypassscrew
(G6).Theorificeis nonadjustableandthescrew
indicatesthecapacity.
