EmissionsControlSystemWarrantyon your smalloff-roadengine(SORE).In Califor-
nai,newsmall off=roadenginesmodelyear2006and latermustbedesigned,built and
equippedto meetthe State'sstdgentanti=smogstandards.Elsewherein theUnitedStates,
new non=road,spark-ignitionenginescertifiedfor modelyear1997and latermust meet
similarstandardssetforth bythe U.S.EPA.B&Smust warrantthe emissionscontrol sys=
tem on yourenginefor the periodsof timelistedbelow,providedtherehasbeenno abuse,
neglector impropermaintenanceof yoursmalloff-roadengine.
Youremissionscontrol systemincludespartssuchasthecarburetor,aircleaner,ignition
system,fuelline,mufflerandcatalyticconverter.Alsoincludedmaybeconnectorsand
other emissionsrelatedassemblies.
Wherea warrantableconditionexists,B&S will repairyour smalloff-roadengineat no
costto you includingdiagnosis,partsandlabor.

Smalloff=roadenginesare warrantedrelativeto emissionscontrol partsdefectsfor a
periodof two years,subiectto provisionssetforth below.If anycoveredpart on your
engineis defective,the part will be repairedor replacedby B&S.
Owner's Warranty Respnnsibitity
Asthe smalloff-madengineowner,you are responsiblefor the performanceof the required
maintenancelistedinyour OperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.B&Srecommends
that youretainall your receiptscoveringmaintenanceon yoursmalloff-roadengine,but
B&Scannotdenywarrantysolelyfor the lackof receiptsor foryour failureto ensurethe
performanceof allscheduledmaintenance.
Asthe smalloff-madengineowner,you shouldhoweverbeawarethat 6&Smay denyyou
warrantycoverageif your smalloff-road engineor a part hasfaileddueto abuse,neglect,
impropermaintenanceor unapprovedmodifications.
Youare responsiblefor presentingyoursmalloff-roadengineto anAuthorized6&S Service
Dealerassoonasa problemexists.The undisputedwarrantyrepairsshouldbecompleted
ina reasonableamountof time, notto exceed30 days.

Theemissionswarrantyis a defectswarranty.Defectsarejudgedon normalengineperfor=
mance.Thewarrantyis not relatedto an in=useemissionstest.
The following arespecificprovisions relativeto your EmissionsControlDefectsWarrantyCoverage.It is in additionto the B&S enginewarrantyfor non°regulatedenginesfound
in the Operatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
1. WarrantedParts

2. Lengthof Coverage
6&S warrants to the initial owner and eachsubsequentpurchaserthat the Warranted 6.
Partsshall be free from defectsin materialsand workmanshipwhich causedthe
failure of the Warrantedpartsfor a periodof two years from the datethe engine is
deliveredto a retail purchaser.
3. No Charge
Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPart will be performed at no chargeto the
owner, nc_umngdiagnosticlabor which leadsto the determinationthat a War-
rame_Part is defecttive,if the diagnosticwork is performed at an AuthorizedB&S
ServiceDealeras listed in the "Yellow Pages"under "Engines,Gasoline,""Gasoline
Engnee." "Lawn Mowers," or similar category.
Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaims shallbe filed in accordancewith the provisionsof the B&S Engine
WarrantyPolicy. Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor failures of WarrantedParts
which are not original 6&S partsor becauseof abuse,neglector impropermain=
renanceas setforth in the B&S EngineWarrantyPolicy.B&S is not liableto cover
failuresof WarrantedPartscaused bythe use of add-on, non-original,or modified
E _/[[S.
Maintenance
Any WarrantedPart which is not scheduledfor replacementas requiredmaintenance
or which is scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect of "repairor replaceas
necessary"shall bewarranted asto defectsfor the warranty period. Any Warranted
Part which is scheduledfor replacementasrequired maintenanceshall bewarranted
asto defectsonly for the periodof time up to the first scheduledreplacementfor
that part. Any replacementpartthat is equivalentin performanceand durability may
be used in the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.Theowner is responsible
for the performanceof all requiredmaintenance,asdefined in the B&S Operating
and Maintenanceinstructions.
ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextendto the failure of any enginecomponentscausedby
the failure of any Warranted Partstill underwarranty.
Enginesthat are certified to meetthe CaliforniaAir ResourcesBoard(CAR6)Emiso
sions Standardmust display information regardingthe EmissionsDurabilityperiod
andthe Air Index. Bdggs & Stratton makesthis information availableto the con-
sumer on our emissions labels.Theengine emissionslabel will indicatecertification
information.
TheEmissions Durability Perioddescribesthe numberof hours of actual running
time for which the engine is certifiedto be emissions compliant,assuming proper
maintenancein accordancewiht the Operatingand Maintenanceinstructions. The
following categoriesare used:
Nlederate:
Engineis certifiedto be emissions compfiantfor 125 hours of actual runningtime.
Intermediate:
Engineis certifiedto be emissions compliantfor 256 hours of actual runningtime.
Extended:
Engineis certifiedto be emissionscompliant for 566 hoursof actual enginerunning time.
Forexample,a typical walk-behindlawn moweris used 20 to 25 hoursper year.There°
fore, the EmiseieesDurability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would
equateto 10 to 12 years.
6riggs & Strattonenginesare certifiedto meetthe United StatesEnvironmentalProteco
tion Agency(ESEPA)Phase2 emissions standards.ForPhase2 certifiedengines,the
EmissionsCompliancePeriodreferredto on the EmissionsCompliancelabel indicatesthe
numberof operating hours for which the engine has beenshownto meet Federalemis-
sions requirements.
Forengineslessthan 225 cc displacement.
CategoryC= 125 hours,CategoryB=250 hours,CategoryA= 500 hours
Forenginesof 225 cc or moredisplacement.
