DECK WASH
Yourmower'sdeckis equippedwitha waterport on itssurfaceas part
of its deckwashsystem.
Usethe deckwashto rinsegrass clippingsfromthe deck'sunderside
andpreventthe buildupof corrosivechemicals.Completethe following
stepsAFTEREACHMOWING:
1. Pushthe mowerto a level,clearspot on your lawn,near enough
for yourgardenhoseto reach.Ifattached,removethe grassbag.
house,garage,parkedcars,etc.
2. Threadthe hosecoupler(packagedwith yourmower'sOperator's
Manual)onto theendof your gardenhose.
3. Attachthehosecouplertothewaterportonyourdeck'ssurface.See
Figure19.
4. Turnthewateron.
5. Startthe engineas describedinthe Operationsection.
6. Runtheenginefora minimumoftwo minutes,allowingtheunderside
of the cuttingdeck to thoroughlyrinse.
7. Releasebladecontrolto stopthe engineand blade.
8. Turnthewateroffanddetachthehosecouplerfromthewaterporton
yourdeck'ssurface.
Aftercleaningyourdeck, restartthe mower.Keepthe engineand
bladerunningfor a minimumof twominutes,allowingthe undersideof
the cuttingdeck to thoroughlydry.
BLADE CARE
When removingthe cutting bladefor sharpeningor replacement,
protectyour handswitha pairof heavyglovesor use a heavyragto
holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyif you
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplug bootfrom sparkplug.Turnmoweronitsside
makingsurethat the air filter and the carburetorare facingup.
2. Removetheboltandthebladebellsupportwhichholdthebladeand
the bladeadaptertothe enginecrankshaft.SeeFigure20.
3. Removebladeandadapterfromthe crankshaft.
4. Removebladefromtheadapterfortestingbalance.Balancetheblade
ona roundshaftscrewdriverto check.Removemetalfromthe
heavysideuntil it balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe blade,
followthe originalangleof grind.Grindeachcuttingedge equally
to keepthe blade balanced.
Anunbalancedblade willcauseexcessivevibrationwhenrotatingat
highspeeds.It maycause damageto mowerand couldbreakcausing
personalinjury.

5. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandthe innersurfaceof the blade
adapterwith lightoil. Slidethe bladeadapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethe bladeon the adaptersuchthatthe sideof
the blademarked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)facestheground
whenthe moweris in the operatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeis alignedandseatedon theblade adapterflanges.See
Figure19inset.
6. Placeblade bell supporton theblade.Alignnotchesonthe blade
bellsupportwithsmallholesin blade.
7. Replacehex boltand tightenhex boltto torque:450in. Ibs.rain.,
600 in. Ibs.max.
Toensuresafeoperationof yourmower,periodicallycheckthe blade
boltfor correcttorque.
