tightendipstickcapsecurelyontothe
tube beforeremovingdipstick. Keepoil
at "FULl" lineon dipstick.Tightencap
onto thetubesecurelywhenfinished.
ENGINEOIL FILTER
Replacetheengineoilfiltereveryseason
or everyother oilchangeif thetractoris
usedmorethan 100hoursinone year.
AIR FILTER
Yourenginewill notrunproperlyusinga
dirty airfilter. Cleanthefoampre-cleaner
afterevery25 hoursofoperationorevery
season. Servicepapercartridgeevery
100hoursof operationor everyseason,
whicheveroccursfirst.
Serviceair cleanermoreoftenunderdusty
conditions.
1. Removeknobsand cover.
TOSERVICEPRE-CLEANER
2. Washit inliquiddetergentandwater.
3. Squeezeitdry in a clean cloth.
4. Saturateit in engineoil. Wrapit in
clean,absorbentclothandsqueezeto
removeexcessoil.
NOTE:Ifverydirtyordamaged,replace
pre-cleaner.
TOSERVICECARTRIDGE
1. Cleancartridgebytappinggentlyon
flat surface. Ifverydirtyordamaged,
replacecartridge.
2. Reinstallprecleanercartridge,cover
and securewith knobs.
IMPORTANT:Petroleumsolvents,such
as kerosene,are notto be usedto clean
the cartridge.Theymaycausedeterio-
rationofthe cartridge. Donotoil cartridge.
Do notuse pressurizedair to cleanordry
cartridge.
CLEANAIR SCREEN
Airscreenmustbe keptfreeof dirt and
chaffto preventenginedamagefrom
overheating.Cleanwith awire brushor
compressedair to removedirt andstub-
borndriedgumfibers.
CLEANAIR INTAKE/COOLINGAREAS
Toinsurepropercooling,makesurethe
grassscreen,coolingfins,andother
externalsurfacesof theengineare kept
cleanatalltimes.
Every100hoursof operation(moreoften
underextremelydusty,dirtyconditions),
removetheblowerhousingandothercool-
ingshrouds.Cleanthecoolingfinsand
externalsurfacesasnecessary.Makesure
thecoolingshroudsare reinstalled.
NOTE:Operatingtheenginewith a
blockedgrassscreen,dirtyor plugged
coolingfins,and/orcoolingshrouds
removedwillcauseenginedamagedueto
overheating.
MUFFLER
Inspect and replace corroded muffler and
spark arrester (if equipped) as it could cre-
ate a fire hazard and/or damage.
SPARK PLUG(S)
Replace spark plug(s) at the beginning
of each mowing season or after every
100 hours of operation, whichever occurs
first. Spark plug type and gap setting are
shown in "PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS"
section of this manual.
IN-LINE FUEL FILTER
The fuel filter should be replaced once
each season. If fuel filter becomes
clogged, obstructing fuel flow to carbu-
retor, replacement is required.
1. With engine cool, remove filter and
plug fuel line sections.
2. Place new fuel filter in position in fuel
line with arrow pointing towards carbu-
retor.
3. Be sure there are no fuel line leaks and
clamps are properly positioned.
4. Immediately wipe up any spilled gaso-
line.
