Congratulat ions on your purchase of the high speed
docum ent im age scanner. With this scanner, you can you
scan your stack of docum ents up to 150 pages at one tim e to
boost your product ivit y.
Before you install and operate the new scanner, please take a
few m inutes t o read t hrough t his m anual. I t provides proper
instruct ions for you t o unpack, install, operate and m aint ain
the scanner.

2 .1 Pre caut ions

LED will flash. When it is finished and ready to scan, t he LED
indicat or will stop flashing and becom e steadily on. To turn
off t he scanner, press t he Power Switch but ton for about 3
seconds, t he Power LED will be off.

N ot e:
1) . To ensure your com put er can identify t he USB scanner,
please inst all scanner driver first before connecting t he
scanner t o your com put er.
2) . The scanner driver contains TWAI N, I SI S and WI A driver.
Aft er the installation of scanner driver is com pleted, this
scanner allows you to scan via a TWAI N, I SI S, or a WI A
int erface. St art your TWAI N-com pliant im age editing
software applicat ion to select a TWAI N or WI A user interface
or your I SI S software to select an I SI S user interface. You
m ay also launch Microsofts Scanner and Cam era Wizard t o
scan via a WI A user int erface.
1 . Place the supplied CD-ROM ont o your CD- ROM drive.
2 . The soft ware inst allat ion graphic appears. I f not , run
setup.exe.

2 .5 Connecting t o Com put er
1. Connect the square end of the USB cable to the USB port of
your scanner. Connect t he r ectangle e nd t o t he USB port at
the rear side of your com put er.
N ot e: The scanner is designed with a USB 3.1 interface to
ensure the optim al speed. I f your com put er com es with a
USB 3.1 port , m ake sure t o connect t he scanner to your
com put er to the USB 3.1 port which is dist inguished in blue
color at the back of your com put er. The USB 3.1 port
enhances your scanning speed and is also com pat ible with
USB 2.0 and USB 3.0.
2. The com put er should det ect a new USB device and prom pt a
N e w Hardw are Found m essage.
3. By following the on- screen inst ruct ions, click the N ext
button to continue. When t he cert ificat ion screen appears,
click Continue Anyw ay t o com plet e t he inst allat ion.
4. When t he Finish dialog is prom pt ed, click t he Fin ish but t on.

Before connecting t o the network scanner, m ake sure that

rt ual Scanner Link (Network Set up Tool) has been inst alled
ont o your com put er. The Network Setup Tool is included in t he
supplied soft ware CD.
1. St art [ Virt ual Scanner Link] by choosing St art> All
Program s> Avision Virt ual Scanner > Vir t ual Scanner
Link. The m ain window will be displayed and t he scanners
in your net w ork will be searched aut om at ically. I n a few
seconds, the result including the scanner m odel and
scanners I P address will be displayed as shown.
2. Choose the scanner you wish t o connect and t hen press
[ Conne ct ] . I f connection is successful, a connection
m ark will be displayed as shown.

3. After t he scanner has been connected successfully,
launch your TWAI N- com pliant im age- edit ing software
application t o st art a scan.

N ot e:
The net work scanner can be used by one user at a
tim e. I f the network scanner is being used by other
user, you will be prom pt ed with a m essage t o connect
the scanner later. When t he scanner is available, you
will also be prom pt ed with a m essage t o connect t he
scanner and start scanning your docum ent.
I f the network scanner has not been found, it is
probably t he scanner and your com put er are not in t he
sam e LAN. I n this case, you can assign a specific I P
address of t he scanner t o let [ Virt ual Scanner Link]
aut om atically search t he scanner. Click t he [ Opt ion]
button, t ype your I P address on t he [ Searching
Address] field ( 1 ) , t hen click the [ + ] butt on ( 2 ) and
finally click [ OK] ( 3 ) t o com plete.
Searching Tim e: When t he program is launched, it
aut om atically searches t he scanner in t he net work in 5
seconds ( default). The searching tim e can be changed
from a range of 5 to 20 seconds.
I f t he [ Virt ual Scanner Link] program has been closed
and then launched again, [ Virt ual Scanner Link] will
aut om atically search and connect the network scanner it
has previously connected t o.

fan your docum ent s and align the top edges before feeding
them into the scanner.

When scanning a bat ch of docum ents with different sizes and
weight s, be sure to follow t hese guidelines t o avoid a skewed
im age or a paper j am :
1. Align t he docum ent s TOP ED GE first in the sequence of
paper size from large t o sm all.
2. I f t wo pages are of the sam e size yet with different weight ,
arrange these pages in the sequence of paper weight from
heavyweight t o lightweight.

open the rear cover by pressi

3 .3 Ve rifying Your Scanner I nst allation
T
o verify if your scanner inst allat ion is correct , Avision provides
you a useful t est program called Avision Capture Tool. With this
tool, you can perform sim ple scans and view t he captured
im ages. I n addition, it helps you com plet e your scan at a rated
speed.
The following procedure describes how t o verify your scanner
installation. I f t he installat ion is not correct, please review t he
preceding sect ion t o check if the cable connection and scanner
driver have been successfully installed.
Before you begin, be sure t he scanner is on.
1. Select St art> Program s> Avision xxx Scanner> Avision
Capt ure Tool. The Select Scanner Model dialog box will be
displayed.
2. Select your driver type and scanner m odel and click OK.
The following Avision Capt ure Tool dialog box will be
displayed.

3. Choose your desired file form at from t he File Form at drop
down list box. ( Default is JPEG, ot her choice includes TI FF,
MTI FF, PDF, MPDF, GI F, and BMP.) The support ed file
form at s vary depending on your scanner m odel.
4. Type your desired folder nam e and file nam e in t he File Pat h
box. ( Default is C: \ Docum ents and Settings\ User Nam e\ My
Docum ents\ My Scan\ I m age.)
N ot e: I f you do not wish t o save t he scanned im age,
deselect the Save but t on since default is Save Enable. I n t his
case, t he t hum bnail view will be disabled. And therefore,
aft er viewing all t he scanned im ages, only t he last one will
rem ain on t he screen.
5. Click t he Setup but t on ( ) or choose Setup from t he
File m enu to prom pt t he Scanner Propert ies dialog box.

6. From the I m age Selection Box, choose your desired im age
type for your scanned im age. ( Default is Front B&W) I f you
have a duplex scanner, choose Front and Rear t o scan both
sides of your docum ent .
7. Click OK t o quit t he Scanner Properties dialog box. ( To
learn m ore det ails about t he Scanner Properties dialog box,
please see the subsequent chapter, Using t he Scanner
Properties Dialog Box.)
8. Place your docum ent face down on t he docum ent glass or
face up in t he aut o docum ent feeder.
9. I n t he Scan Validat ion dialog box, click t he Scan but t on

) or choose Scan from t he File m enu.
10. The docum ent will be scanned and displayed in the Scan
Validat ion screen. After t he scanned im ages have been
displayed, your scanner inst allation verificat ion is com plet ed.

The Scanner Propert ies dialog box allows you to configure t he
scanners settings. I t consist s of several t abbed windows each
of which will be described in this chapt er.
N ot e: I n this chapter, all options are available based on a
duplex ( double- side) scanner. I f you have purchased a sim plex
( single- side) scanner, all opt ions are available for single sided
only.

The [ Sca nne r Propertie s] dialog box is displayed in default
with three basic tabs - I m age, Paper, and I nform ation. To
show m ore t abs, click the [ Scanner Proper t ies] icon t o access
m ore scan settings.

left corner, and choose [ Tab] t o show available t ab nam es.
The available tabs include Com pression, Color Drop out,
Preview, Rotat ion, Separat ion, Multi- Feed, Opt ions,
Set t ings, and I m print er. ( Note: t he opt ions vary based on
scanner m odel.)
2. Choose t he t ab you want to display. The select ed tab will
be shown with a check m ark and t hen displayed in t he
[ Scanner Properties] dialog box.
3. To access t he settings, click t he selected t ab on t he t op of
the [ Scanner Properties] dialog box. The page of t he
select ed t ab will be displayed.

The I m a ge Tab
The I m age tab allows you to choose the front side and (or) t he
rear side of your docum ent , t he t ype of im age, and to set
several basic scan settings. Not e that except for t he resolution,
you can set individual scan set t ings for t he front side and t he
rear side. For exam ple, all settings in t he I m age t ab,
Com pression t ab, Color Dropout tab can be set individually for
the front and t he rear side. However, t he settings in t he Paper
tab, the Option t ab, and t he Set t ing t ab have t o be set the
sam e for the front and rear side.

page of your color docum ent in color im age m ode. I f your
docum ent is in colors, t he scanner will autom atically scan t he
docum ent into a color im age. I f your docum ent is non-color,
you can choose the out put to be either B&W or Gray from t he
Non- Color Select ion opt ion. This opt ion is useful when you
have a m ixture of color and non- color docum ent.
Note: I f you choose Front Rear Aut o Color Det ection, you can
not specify t he im age m ode of your rear page and vice versas.
Modes of Aut o Color D etect ion:
I f [ Front / Re ar Aut o Color D etect ion] is select ed, it s m odes
will be displayed. Choice includes N or m a l, I gnore Paper
Color. For paper wit h background color such as invoices,
choosing [ I gnore Paper Color] will aut om atically rem ove t he
background color and enhance t he detect ion accuracy.

Sensit ivit y of Aut o Color Detect ion
I f your docum ents contain prim arily B&W text and sm all
am ount of light or pale colors and you do not wish t hem to be
recognized as color im age t o save t he file size, you can

Bin arization Thi
s is the process of converting a
grayscale or color im age t o a bi-tonal
im age. There are several different
m et hods of perform ing this conversion.
Opt ions: Dynam ic Thr eshold,

Proce ssin g, Halftone 1 ~ 5 , Error
Diffusion.
Dynam ic Thr eshold: Selecting
Dynam ic Thr eshold allows the scanner
to dynam ically evaluat e each docum ent
to determ ine the optim al threshold value
to produce the highest qualit y im age.
This is used to scan m ixed docum ent
containing faint t ext, shaded background,
or color background wit h a single set t ing.
I f Dynam ic Threshold is select ed,
Threshold, Bright ness, and Cont rast are
not available.
Dynam ic Thr eshold ( AD) : Selecting
Dynam ic Thr eshold ( AD) t o perform
the enhanced m ode of the Dynam ic
Threshold feat ure. However, using t his
m ode m ay slow down your scanning
speed.

Occasionally your scanned im age m ay
contain sm all dot s or speckles. To rem ove
these spots, increase t he sensit ivit y value

Re solut ion A good control of the resolut ion result s a
good detail of an im age t hat scans. The
resolut ion is m easured by dot s per inch
( dpi). Norm ally, t he greater t he dpi num ber,
the higher t he resolut ion and t he im age file
size. Be aware t hat great er resolut ion takes
m ore t im e to scan, and m ore disk space for
the scanning im age. For your inform ation,
an A4 size color im age scanned at 300 dpi at
True Color m ode consum es approxim at ely 25
MB of disk space. A higher resolut ion
( usually m eans over 600 dpi) is only
recom m ended when you need to scan a
sm all area at True Color m ode.
Choose a resolut ion value from the drop
down list. The default value is 200 dpi.
Available resolut ions are 75, 100, 150, 200,
300, 400 and 600. Or you m ay choose your
desired value by clicking the box in t he right
side of the drop down list and press t he
arrow key t o select your desired value and
then click the Add but t on t o include it in the
drop down list. N ot e: The resolution is up t o
300 dpi if an im printer or a MI CR reader is
installed or connect ed t o t he scanner.

4 .3 .6 Edit ing Profiles
The Scanner Propert ies dialog box allows you to change and
save your frequent l
y used scan settings into a profile. You can
edit these profiles by renam ing or delet ing t hem .
To a dd a new pr ofile,
1. Cust om ize your set t ings. ( For exam ple, change your
resolution, im age t ype, cropping m et hod, scan size, or
ot her scan set t ings.)
2. Click the I m age tab and t hen choose Profiles t o prom pt
the Edit Your Profile dialog box.

4 .4 The Com pr ession Ta b
The Com pression t ab allows you t o com press your scanned
im age and choose the level of com pression. Bi- t onal im ages
are norm ally com pressed using CCITT standard called Group 4
( G4) . Color and grayscale im ages are often com pressed using
JPEG t echnol
ogy. Move t he JPEG Qu alit y slider t o the right or
left t o increase or decrease t he level of com pression. Not e t he
great er the com pression level, the lower im age qualit y. Default
is 50% .
Note that the com pression depends on your im age edit ing
application. I f your im age edit ing application does not support
the type of com pression form at , t hen either a warning
m essage will appear or the im age qualit y of the com pressed file
will not be accept able.
JPEG ( Joint Photographic Editor Group). This group developed
and lent t heir nam e t o a file com pression standard for color and
grayscale im ages that is widely used by scanners, and software
applications. On Microsoft Windows- based system s, a file with
the ext ension .j pg has norm ally been com pressed using this
st andard.

To com plet e your scan at a rat ed speed, t he scanned im age is
com pressed by default during transm ission. However, if you
wish t o obt ain the highest im age quality, you can choose t o

from t he TWAI N driver t o t he applicat ion. Not e Bi- t onal im ages

The [ Color Dr opout] t ab allows you to select either green,
red, blue, or a color of your choice to rem ove the det ai

sharpen your t ext when using OCR ( Opt ical Charact er
Recognition) soft ware. Note this feature applies only t o the
gray or black and white im age.

scanned by folding in half, inserting int o the Carrier Sheet, and

6 .3 Scanning From One Touch of t he Buttons
1. Adj ust the paper guide for t he widt h of paper and load t he

m ay be contam inated w it h ink, toner particles, or paper dust.
I n t his case, t he paper m ay not be fed sm oot hly. Please follow
the following st eps t o clean t he Reverse roller and t he Feeding
Rollers to ensure the best of t he scanner.

1. Soak a clean clot h with som e isopropyl alcohol ( 95% ) .
2. Pull the Handle and open t he ADF cover w it h a light force.

When you perform cl

part of t he scanner, the rollers need to be rot ated with a light
force. Using t he advanced [ clean m ode] , t he rollers can be
aut om atically rot at ed forward t o help cleaning easier and
effect ive.
To use the Clean Mode t o clean the rollers,
1. Press and hold the [ Cance l] button and the [ Scan] button
for m ore t han 2 seconds, t he following screen w ill be
displayed.
2. Use

[ Scan] to confirm .
3. Pull the Handle and open t he ADF cover w it h a light force.
