Press the Pow er Swi
tch button on the front panel, t he Power
LED will flash. When it is finished and ready to scan, the LED
indicator will st op flashing and becom e st eadily on. To turn
off t he scanner, press t he Power Switch butt on for about 3
seconds, t he Power LED will be off.

N OTE:
1 ) . To ensure your com put er can ident ify the USB scanner,
please install scanner driver first before connect ing the
scanner to your com puter.
2 ) . The scanner driver cont ains TWAI N, I SI S and WI A driver.
After t he inst allat ion of scanner driver is com plet ed, t his
scanner allows you t o scan via a TWAI N, I SI S, or a WI A
interface. Start your TWAI N- com pliant im age edit ing
software applicat ion t o select a TWAI N or WI A user interface
or your I SI S soft ware t o select an I SI S user int erface. You
m ay also launch Microsofts Scanner and Cam era Wizard to
scan via a WI A user interface.
1 . Place the supplied CD- ROM ont o your CD- ROM drive.
2 . The soft ware inst allat ion graphic appears. I f not , run

I nst all AVScan X: To scan and organize your m ult i-

2 .5 Connect ing t o Com put er
1 . Connect the squ a r e e nd of t he USB cable t o the USB port of
your scanner. Connect the rect angle e nd to the USB port at
the rear side of your com puter.
N ote: The scanner is designed wit h a USB 3.0 interface to
ensure the opt im al speed. I f your com puter com es wit h a
USB 3.0 port, m ake sure to connect the scanner t o your
com put er to the USB 3.0 port which is dist inguished in blue
color at t he back of your com puter. The USB 3.0 port
enhances your scanning speed and is also com pat ible wit h
USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.
2 . The com puter should detect a new USB device and prom pt a
New H a rdw a re Found m essage.
3 . By following the on-screen inst ruct ions, click t he N ext
button t o continue. When the certificat ion screen appears,
click Continue Anyw a y t o com plet e t he installat ion.
4 . When t he Finish dialog is prom pt ed, click t he Finish button.

1 . Open the box of the print cartridge and rem ove t he
prot ect i
ve t ape from the bot tom of the cart ridge.
I MPORTAN T:
I f you rem ove a print cartridge, replace it
im m ediately. I f the cart ridge is outside of t he device
for t oo long, t he ink can dry and clog the nozzles.
Carefully hold the ink cart ridge to avoid st aining your
clot hes or t he surrounding area.
2 . Hold the t ab and do not touch t he ink nozzles (

3 . Open the I m printer Cover.
4 . Open t he Print Cart ridge Holder by lifting up t he locking
lever wit h your finger.
5 . Grasp the tab of t he cart ridge and insert the cart ridge into
the holder with the label facing up and the tab pointing to
the left.

6 . Lower t he locking lever of t he Print Cart ridge Holder until it
locks in.

9 . Close the I m printer Cover.
I MPORTAN T:
1. I n t he upper back of the Print Cartridge Holder are
the document size m arkings; use t hem t o adj ust for
paper size or docum ent print start ing posit ion.
2. Place the actual docum ent in t he ADF and confirm
that the print cart ridge is posit ioned within the
docum ent widt h.
3. Once a print cart ridge has been inst alled, do not
rem ove it from the m achine and leave it out in t he
open. This will cause t he print cart ridge to dry out ,
and the device m ay not operat e properly when it is
reinst alled. To m aintain opt im al printing qualit y, use
a print cart ridge wit hin six m ont hs of first use.

To avoid occasional m ult i- feeds or paper jam s, please fan
your docum ent s and align the t op edges before feeding them
into the scanner.

When scanning a bat ch of documents with different sizes and
weights, be sure t o follow t hese guidelines to avoid a skewed
im age or a paper j am :
1 . Align t he docum ent s TOP EDGE first in the sequence of
paper size from large to sm all.
2 . I f two pages are of the sam e size yet wit h different weight,
arrange these pages in the sequence of paper weight from
heavyweight t o lightweight .

To specify num ber of sheet via t he Control Panel,
1. Press and hold the [ Sca n] and [ Cancel] butt on for m ore
than 2 seconds, t he following screen w ill be displayed.
Make sure [ Tray Adjust ] is select ed. The following opt ions
will be display ed.
2. Use or t o select your desired num ber. Ch oice : 5 0 , 1 2 5 ,
2 5 0 , 3 7 5 , 5 0 0 she e t s ( defa u lt ) .
3. Press the [ Sca n] button t o confirm your selection and ret urn

3 .3 Verifying Your Scanner I nst a lla t ion
T
o verify if your scanner inst allat ion is correct , Avision provides
you a useful test program called Avision Capt ure Tool. Wit h this
tool, you can perform sim ple scans and view t he captured
im ages. I n addit ion, it helps you com plet e your scan at a rat ed
speed.
The following procedure describes how t o verify your scanner
inst allat ion. I f t he inst allat ion is not correct, please review t he
preceding section t o check if t he cable connect ion and scanner
driver have been successfully installed.
Before you begin, be sure t he scanner is on.
1. Select St art> Program s> Avision xxx Scanner> Avision
Capt ure Tool. The Select Scanner Model dialog box w ill be
displayed.
2. Select your driver type and scanner m odel and click OK.
The following Avision Capt ure Tool dialog box will be
displayed.

3. Choose your desired file form at from the File Form at drop
down list box. ( Default is JPEG, ot her choice includes TI FF,
MTI FF, PDF, MPDF, GI F, and BMP.) The supported file
form at s vary depending on your scanner m odel.
4. Type your desired folder nam e and file nam e in t he File Pat h
box. (Default is C: \ Docum ents and Set t ings\ User Nam e\ My
Docum ent s\ My Scan\ I m age.)
N ote: I f you do not wish to save the scanned im age,
deselect the Save button since default is Save Enable. I n t his
case, t he t hum bnail view will be disabled. And therefore,
after viewing all the scanned im ages, only t he last one will
rem ain on the screen.
5. Click t he Set up but ton (
) or choose Set up from t he
File m enu to prom pt t he Scanner Propert ies dialog box.

6. From the I m age Select ion Box, choose your desired im age
type for your scanned im age. (Default is Front B&W) I f you
have a duplex scanner, choose Front and Rear t o scan both
sides of your docum ent .
7. Click OK t o quit the Scanner Propert ies dialog box. ( To
learn m ore det ails about t he Scanner Properties dialog box,
please see t he subsequent chapter, Using the Scanner
Properties Dialog Box.)
8. Place your docum ent face down on t he docum ent glass or
face up in t he auto docum ent feeder.
9. I n t he Scan Validation dialog box, click t he Scan button

) or choose Scan from t he File m enu.
10. The docum ent w ill be scanned and displayed in t he Scan
Validation screen. After t he scanned im ages have been
displayed, your scanner installation verificat ion is com plet ed.

Propert ies Dialog Box
The Scanner Properties dialog box allows you t o configure the
scanners set t ings. I t consists of several tabbed windows each
of which will be described in t his chapt er.

The I m age tab allows you t o choose the front side and (or) the
rear side of your docum ent, the t ype of im age, and to set
several basic scan set t ings. Not e that except for t he resolution,
you can set individual scan set tings for t he front side and t he
rear side. For exam ple, all set t ings in the I m age t ab,
Com pression tab, Color Dropout t ab can be set individually for
the front and t he rear side. However, the set tings in t he Paper

or color background wit h a single set ting.

Dynam ic Thresh old ( AD ) to perform
the enhanced m ode of the Dynam ic
Threshold feat ure. However, using this
m ode m ay slow down your scanning

Resolut ion A good control of t he resolution results a
good detail of an im age t hat scans. The
resolut ion is m easured by dot s per inch
( dpi) . Norm ally, t he great er t he dpi num ber,
the higher the resolution and t he im age file
size. Be aware t hat great er resolution takes
m ore tim e to scan, and m ore disk space for
the scanning im age. For your inform at ion,
an A4 size color im age scanned at 300 dpi at
True Color m ode consum es approxim at ely 25
MB of disk space. A higher resolution
( usually m eans over 600 dpi) is only
recom m ended when you need to scan a
sm all area at True Color m ode.
Choose a resolution value from the drop
down list . The default value is 200 dpi.
Available resolutions are 75, 100, 150, 200,
300, 400 and 600. Or you m ay choose your
desired value by clicking the box in the right
side of the drop down list and press the
arrow key t o select your desired value and

4 .4 The Com pression Tab
The Com pression tab allows you t o com press your scanned
im age and choose t he level of com pression. Bi- t onal im ages
are norm ally com pressed using CCI TT st andard called Group 4
( G4). Color and grayscale im ages are often com pressed using
JPEG technol
ogy. Move t he JPEG Qu a lit y slider t o the right or
left t o increase or decrease the level of com pression. Not e t he
great er t he com pression level, t he lower im age qualit y. Default
is 50% .
Not e t hat the com pression depends on your im age editing
application. I f your im age edit ing applicat ion does not support
the type of com pression form at , t hen eit her a warning
m essage will appear or t he im age qualit y of t he com pressed file
will not be accept able.
JPEG ( Joint Phot ographic Edit or Group) . This group developed
and lent t heir nam e to a file com pression st andard for color and
grayscale im ages that is widely used by scanners, and software
applications. On Microsoft Windows- based syst em s, a file wit h
the extension .jpg has norm ally been com pressed using this
st andard.

A Carrier Sheet is a plastic sheet specifically used for loading
non-st andard docum ent onto the scanner. I t allows you t o scan
docum ent that can not be scanned in the regular way. Also,
docum ents larger t han A4 size, such as A3 and B4, can be
scanned by folding in half, insert ing into the Carrier Sheet , and
scanning in duplex m ode. You can also scan docum ents that
can be dam aged quit e easily such as phot ographs, or irregular
size docum ents that are difficult to load direct ly such as
clippings.

The Reset Roller Count butt on
After scanning over a recom m ended number of pages (refer t o
subsequent sect ion 7.4 Replacing the ADF Roller) through the
ADF, t he ADF roller m ay be worn out and you m ay experience
problem s with docum ent feeding. I n t his case, it is highly
recom m ended t o replace the ADF roller wit h a new one. ( Not e
the replacem ent of t he ADF roller has t o be perform ed only by
authorized service center. Therefore, please ret urn your
scanner for roller replacem ent.) Aft er replacing the ADF roller,
click t he Re se t Roller Count button to reset the roller count.

1. Adjust the paper guide for t he width of paper and load t he
docum ent wi
th t heir t ops into the autom atic docum ent feeder.
2. Check t he butt on nam e on t he LCD screen to ensure if you
are selecting t he proper scan set tings and dest ination
applicat ion. ( For exam ple, if you wish t o scan with Button,
Scan t o App , which opens Microsoft Paint and displays the
scanned im age in the window of Microsoft Paint , t he LCD
screen should show Scan to App ) .

7 .1 Clea ning t he AD F
From t i
m e to t im e, the Reverse roller and the Feeding Rollers
m ay be cont am inated with ink, t oner particles, or paper dust.
I n t his case, t he paper m ay not be fed sm oothly. Please follow
the following st eps t o clean t he Reverse roller and t he Feeding
Rollers to ensure the best of the scanner.
The Cleaning St e ps:
1. Soak a clean clot h with som e isopropyl alcohol ( 95% ) .
2. Pull the Handle and open t he ADF cover wit h a light force.
3. Wipe the surface of t he feeding rollers unt il they are
cleaned.

When you perform cl
eaning for t he feeding rollers in t he lower
part of the scanner, t he rollers need t o be rot ated w ith a light
force. Using the advanced [ clean m ode] , the rollers can be
autom atically rotat ed forward to help cleaning easier and
effect ive.
To use t he Clean Mode to clean t he rollers,
1. Press and hold the [ Cancel] butt on and the [ Sca n] button
for m ore than 2 seconds, t he following screen will be
displayed.

I n t he event of a paper j am , follow t he procedures below t o
rem ove the paper:
1. P
ull the Handle and open t he ADF cover wit h a light force.
2. Carefully pull the paper out of the ADF unit .

3. Close t he ADF by pressing down on the center of the ADF
to ret urn it to it s original posit ion unt il it clicks into place.

Quest ion:

ready.
An sw er: There are two possibilit ies:
1) You m ight fail to push t he scanner
shipping lock t o it s unlocked position.
I f t his is t he case, pull the scanner
st at us swit ch to it s unlocked position
first .
2) The scanner is not placed on an
even, flat desktop surface. This m ay
cause the scanner t o m alfunct ion.
Quest ion:

1) Open t he front door.
2) Pull out t he j am m ed paper carefully.
3) Close the front door.
Quest ion:
More t han on e sheet of paper a re
fed int o t he scanner.
An sw er:
1) Open t he scanner front door.
2) Rem ove t he m ult i- fed sheet s.
3) Close the front door.
4) Flat ten t he corners and edges.
Loosen t he paper before put ting it
into the paper guide again.
5) Check t he feeding roller condit ion.
I f necessary, follow the cleaning
direct ions in sect ion 7.1 and
perform t he cleaning.

2) Check t he condit ion of t he feeding
roller. I f necessary, follow t he

1) Please adj ust the screen set tings t o
sRGB.
2) Please adj ust the brightness
sett ings on the screen from
application software.

t o be 6 0 0 dpi, t he " auto cr op" and
"deskew " funct ions w ill be
disa bled.
An sw er:
Since to perform auto crop and deskew
consumes great deal of syst em
m em ory, it is suggested if you wish t o
perform " auto crop" and "deskew"
functions, please choose your opt ical
resolut ion t o be sm aller than 600 dpi
to prevent a error m essage.
