Venting
AWARNING
VENT DAMPERS - Any vent damper, whether it isoperated
thermally or otherwise must be removed ifitsuseinhibitsprop-
er draftingof the water heater,
Thermally Operated Vent Dampers: Gas-fired water heaters
havingthermal efficiencyin excessof 80%may produce a rela-
tivelylow flue gastemperature. Suchtemperatures may not be
high enough to properly open thermally operated vent
damper_ This would causespillageof flue gasesand may cause
carbon monoxide poisoning.
Vent dampers must bear evidence of certification ascomplying
with the latest edition of American National Standard ANSI
Z21.68 (ANSI 721.66 & 67, respectively,cover electricallyand
mechanically actuated vent dampers). Before installationofany
ventdamper, consultyour localSearsService Center or the gas
utility for further information.
AWARNING
To insure proper venting of this gas-fired water heater, the
correct vent pipediameter must be utilized. Any additions or
deletious of other gasapplianceson a common vent with this
water heater may adverselyaffect the operation of the water
heater. Consult the local SearsService Center or gasutility if
any suchchangesare planned.
For proper venting in certain installations, a larger diametervent
pipe may bi: necessary. Due to great variances in installations,
ira-foreseeableby the manufacturerof the water heater, you must
consult you[ gascompany to aid you in determiningthe proper
ventingfor your waterheater from the vent tables in the latestedi-
tion of the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1, also referredto
asNFPA 54.
Check the ventingsystem for signsof obstructionor deterioration
and replaceifneeded.
The combustion and ventilation airflowmust not be obstructed.
AWARNING
Obstructedor deterioratedvent systemsmaypresenta serious
healthrisk orasphyxiation.
Place the draft hood legs in the receiving holes on the top of
the water heater. The legs will snap in the holes to give a tight
