Normal operatingsounds, gecom
Newer refrigerators sound different from older refrigerators.
Modem refrigerators have more features and use newer
technology.
Do you hear what I hear? These sounds are normal.
HUMMM...
--WHOOSH...
The new high efficiency compressor may mn faster
and hmger than your old refl'igerator and wm may
hear a high-i)itched hmn or pulsating sound while
it is operating.
Sometimes the refl'igerator rtms fi)r an extended period,
especially when the doo_s are opened frequently: This
means that the FrostGuard_"f'eattu'e is working to
prevent fl'eezer bm'n and improve t0od preservation.
Y)m may hear a whooshing somM when the doo_s close.
This is due to pressure equalizing within the reflJgeratoi;
CLICKS, POPS,
CRACKS and CHIRPS
You may hear cracking or i)oi_ping sotmds when the
refl'igerator is first plugged in. This hai_pens as the
refl'igerator cools to the correct temperature.
Electronic dampers click open and closed to provide
optimal cooling and energy savings.
The compressor may cause a clicking or chirping
sound when attempting to restart (this could take
up to 5 minutes).
The electronic control board may cause a clicking
sound when relays activate to control refl'igerator
COil/poileilts,
Expansion and contraction of cooling coils during
and after defl'ost can cause a cracking or i)oi_ping
SOtlnd.
On models with an icemake_; after an icemaking
cycle, you mav hear the ice cubes dropping into
the ice bucket.
WHIRl
You may hear the rims spinning at high speeds.
This hal)pens when the refrigerator is first i)lugged
in, when the doors are opened frequently or when
a large amount of tood is added to the refrigerator
or freezer compartments. The rims are helping to
maintain the correct temperatures.
If either door is open tot over 3 minutes, you may
hear the rims come on in order to cool the light
bulbs.
The rims change speeds in order to provide optimal
cooling and energy savings.
You mav hear the rims _tmning after selecting
OuickFreeze_ or one of the CustomCooFsettings.
WATERSOUNDS
6
The flow of refl'igerant through the fl'eezer cooling
coils may make a gm'gling noise like boiling water.
_'_ter dropping on the defl'ost heater can cause a
sizzling, i)oi)ping or buzzing sound dm'ing the
defl'ost cvcle.
A water dripping noise may occm" during the deti'ost
cycle as ice melts from the evaporator and flows into
the drain pan.
Closing the door may cause a gurgling sotmd due to
pressure equalization.
