The dement will cycle on and off to maintain the preset heat setting.
" The glass-ceramicsurfacemayappeardiscolored when it ishot. This is normal andwill
disappear when the surface cools.
" Glass-ceramic cooktops retain heat for a period of time after the unit is turned off.
When the HOT SURFACE light turns off, the cooking area will be coo[ enough to
touch.

The cooking areason your rangeare iden-
tified by permanent patterns on the glass-
ceramic surface.For most efficient cooking,
fit the pan size to the dement size.
Pans should not extend more than _hto
t-inch beyond the cooking area.

° Before first use, clean the cooktop. (See
Cleaning, page 5.)
° Do not useglasspans.They may scratch
the surface.
° Do not allow plastic,sugaror foodswith
high sugar content to reek onto the hot
cooktop. Should this happen,dean im-
mediately. (See Cleaning, page 5.)
Never let a pan boil dry as this wii[
damagethe surface and pan.
Never usecod<top as awork surfaceor
cutting board. Never cook food direcdy
on the surface.
Never placeatrivet or wok ringbetween
the surface and pan. These items can
mark or etch the top.
Do not slide metal pans across a hot
surface.The pansmayleavemarks which
can be difficuk to remove or leave per-
manent marks. Any marks should be
removed promptly. (See Cleaning, page
5.)
° Hake sure the surface and the pan bot-
tom aredean and smooth before turning
on to prevent scratches.
To prevent scratchingor damageto the
glass-ceramictop, do not leavesugar,salt
or fats on the cooking area. Wipe the
cod<top surface with a dean cloth or
paper towel before using.
° Never use a soiled dish cloth or sponge
to dean the cooktop surface. A film wiii
remain which may cause stains on the
cooking surface after the area is heated.
° Do not use a sinai[ pan on a large ele-
ment. Not only does this waste energy,
but it can also resuk in spiiiovers burning
onto the cooking area which requires
extra cleaning
° Do not use non-flat specialty items that
are oversized or uneven such as round
bottom woks, rippled bottom and/or
oversized cannersand griddles.
° Do not slide heavymetal pansacross the
surface since these may scratch.
Do not use foil or foil-type containers.
Foil may melt onto the glass. [f metal
melts on the cod<top, do not use. Cai[ an
authorized Jenn-Air Servicer.

diately dean the spill from the cooking

area while it is hot to prevent a tough
cleaningchore later. Using extreme care
wipe spill with a dean dry towel
° Do not allow spills to remain on the
cooking area or the cooktop trim for a
long period of time.
Do not use abrasive cleansingpowders
or scouring pads which will scratch the
cooktop.
" Do not use chlorine bleach,ammonia or
other cleansers not specifically recom-
mended for useon glass-ceramic.
To retain the appearance of the glass-
ceramic cooktop, dean after each use.
Glass-ceramic surfaces retain heat.
Turn the dement off a few minutes
before food is completely cooked and
use the retained heat to complete the
cooking.
Becauseof the heat retention charac-
teristics, the dements will not respond
to changesin settings asquickly ascoil
dements, tn the event ore potential
boilover, remove the pan from the
cooking area.
To achieveoptimum cooking performance,
use heavy-gauge,fiat, smooth bottom pans
that conform to the diameter of the cook-
ingarea. ( See"Cooking Made Simple"
for cod<ware characteristics and recom-
mendations.)
