GAS AND OiL FILL-UP f "_
IMPORTANT:This unit isshippedwithoutgasolineor oil inthe engine.
Becertainto serviceenginewithgasolineand oil as instructedinthis
sectionbeforestartingor runningyourmachine.
Oil (one 18 ounce bottle shipped with unit)
FirstTime Use
1. Removeoil fill dipstick (G). SeeFigure11.
2. Withthe moweron levelground,emptyentirecontentsof oil bottle
providedintothe engineoil fill (H).
3. Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.
Subsequent Uses
Use4-strokemotoroil thatmeetsor exceedsthe requirementsfor
APIservicecategorySF,SG, SH,SJ orhigher.Alwayscheckthe API
servicelabelon the oil containerto be sure it includesthe lettersSF,
SG,SH, SJ or higher.
Outdoortemperaturesdeterminethe properoilviscosityfor the engine.
Usethechart to selectthe bestviscosityfor the outdoortemperature
rangeexpected.

1. Checkthe oil withthe enginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickandwipeit clean.
3. Insertand tightenthe oilfill dipstick.Removeit to checkthe oil
level.SeeFigure11.
4. Ifthe oil levelis nearor belowthe lowerlimitmarkon the dipstick,
removethe oil fill dipstick,and fill withthe recommendedoil to the
upperlimitmark(J). Do notoverfill.
5. Reinstallthe oilfill dipstick.
Gasoline
Do notuse unapprovedgasolines,such as E85.Do not mixoil in
gasolineor modifyengineto runonalternatefuels.This will damage
theenginecomponentsand void the engine warranty.
Fuelmustmeet these requirements:
Clean,fresh,unleadedgasoline.

A minimumof 87 octane/87AKI (91 RON).
Gasolinewith upto 10%ethanol(gasohol)or upto 15%MTBE
(methyltertiarybutylether)is acceptable.
Refuelina well-ventilatedareawith the enginestopped.Ifthe engine
hasbeen running,allowitto cool first. Neverrefuelthe engineinsidea
buildingwheregasolinefumesmayreachflamesor sparks.

Gasolineis highlyflammableand explosive,and youcan be
burnedor seriouslyinjuredwhenrefueling.Stopengineand keep
heat,sparks,and flameaway.Refuelonly outdoors.Wipe up spills
immediately.
if yourequipmentwill be usedon an infrequentorintermittentbasis,
pleasereferto the Off SeasonStoragesectionfor additionalinforma-
tion regardingfuel deterioration.
NOTE:Fuelcandamagepaintand sometypesof plastic.Becareful
notto spill fuelwhenfilling yourfueltank.
Neverusestale or contaminatedgasolineoranoil/gasolinemixture.
Avoidgettingdirt or waterin the fueltank.
1. Removethe fuel tank cap.
2. Fillthe fuel tankwithfuel.To allowforexpansionof the fuel, do
notfill abovethe bottomof the fuel tankneck.Do notoverfill.
Wipe up spilledfuel beforestartingtheengine.
3. Installthe fuel tank capandtightenit until it clicks.
4. Movelawnmowerat least 10feet awayfromthe fuel container/
sourceandsitebeforestartin{ me.
Besureno one otherthan theoperatoris standingnearthe lawn
mowerwhilestartingengineoroperatingmower.Neverrun engine
indoorsor in enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas.Engineexhaust
containscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. Keep hands,
feet, hairand looseclothingawayfrom any movingpartson engine
andlawn mower.
