The bladecontrolhandleis a safetydevice.Neverattemptto
bypassits operation.Doingso makesthe safetydeviceinopera-
tiveandmayresultin personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe
rotatingblade.The bladecontrol handlemustoperateeasily
in bothdirectionsand automaticallyreturnto the disengaged
positionwhenreleased.
Neveroperatethe mowerin wet grass.Alwaysbe sureof your
footing. A slip andfall cancauseseriouspersonalinjury.If you
feelyou arelosingyourfooting,releasethe bladecontrolhandle
immediatelyandthe bladewill stop rotatingwithinthreeseconds.
Mowonly in daylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.
Stopthe bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
Ifthe equipmentshouldstart to vibrateabnormally,stop the
engineandcheckimmediatelyfor the cause.Vibrationis gener-
allya warningof trouble.
Shutthe engineoff and wait untilthe bladecomesto a complete
stopbeforeremovingthe grasscatcheror uncloggingthe chute.
Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotatefor a few secondsafterthe
bladecontrolis released.Neverplaceany partof the body inthe
bladeareauntilyou aresurethe bladehasstoppedrotating.
Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrail shield,dischargecover,
grasscatcher,bladecontrolhandleor othersafety protectivede-
vicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemowerwithdamaged
safetydevices.Failureto do socan resultin personalinjury.
Mufflerand engine becomehotand can causea burn.Do not
touch.
Neverattemptto makea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile
theengineis running.

Manual.Failureto do so can resultin personalinjury.
Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntil resistanceis felt,then
pullrapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)willpull
handandarm towardenginefasterthanyoucan let go. Broken

SLOPE OPERATION
Slopesare a majorfactor relatedto slipandfall accidents,whichcan
resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopes requiresextracaution.If
youfeel uneasyona slope,do not mowit. Foryour safety,usethe
SlopeGuideincludedas partof this manualto measureslopesbefore
operatingthis machineon a slopedor hillyarea. If the slopeis greater
than 15degrees,donot mowit.
Do:

Mowacrossthefaced slopes;neverupanddown.Exercise
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.
Watchfor holes,ruts, rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumpswhich can
causeyou to slip ortrip.Tallgrasscan hideobstacles.
Alwaysbesureof yourfooting.A slipand fall can causeserious
personalinjury.If you feelyou are losingyourbalance,release
the bladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop
rotatingwithinthree (3) seconds.
DoNot:
Donot mow neardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments,you could
lose yourfootingor balance.
Donot mowslopesgreaterthan 15degreesas shownon the
slopegauge.
Donot mowon wet grass.Unstablefootingcouldcauseslipping.
CHILDREN
Tragicaccidentscan occurif the operatoris not alertto the presence
of children.Childrenare often attractedto themowerand the mowing
activity.Theydonot understandthe dangers.Neverassumethat
childrenwill remainwhereyou lastsawthem.
Keepchildrenout of the mowingarea and underwatchfulcareof
a responsibleadultotherthan theoperator.
Bealertandturn moweroffif achild entersthe area.
Beforeand whilemovingbackwards,look behindanddown for
smallchildren.
Useextremecare whenapproachingblindcorners,doorways,
shrubs,trees,or otherobjectsthat mayobscureyourvision of a
child whomayrunintothe mower.
Keepchildrenawayfrom hot or runningengines.Theycan suffer
burnsfrom a hot muffler.
Neverallowchildrenunder 14yearsof age to operatethis

the machineand be trainedand supervisedby an adult.
SERVICE
Safe HandlingOf Gasoline:
Toavoid personalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare
in handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableandthe
vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen
gasolineis spilledon yourselfor yourclothes,whichcan ignite.
Washyour skinandchangeclothesimmediately.
Useonly an approvedgasolinecontainer.
Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleoron atruck ortrailer bed
witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson theground away
fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruck ortrailerand
refuelit on the ground.If this is notpossible,then refuelsuch
equipmenton a trailer witha portablecontainer,ratherthanfrom
a gasolinedispensernozzle.
Keepthe nozzlein contactwith the rimof the fueltank or
containeropeningat all timesuntilfuelingis complete.Donot use
a nozzlelock-opendevice.
