Instant Pot 112-0156-01 Questions and Answers

#1 Does this pot have teflon?

I am assuming you were referring to the possible Teflon non-stick coating on the inner pot. There is NO non-stick coating of any kind in this product. The inner pot is made of the 304 stainless steel, which is a food-safe material.

#2 Does the slow cook heat up the food first then slow cook or just simmer for hours at low heat?

I haven't slow cooked in my 9-1 yet, but in previous Instant Pot models, it functions just like a regular slow cooker with cooking temps of low, medium and high for the desired length of time. There are several nice YouTube tutorials which provide more in depth details and instructions.

#3 How long does it take for the cooker to cool down so you can open? Does it have a pressure release valve?

It takes about 10-15 minutes but I generally wait a few minutes to rest a bit then I use something with a long handle to push the tab to release so the steam doesn't burn me. It can be pretty powerful so be sure to allow clearance above it as well (for example, you don't want to open the steam release under a pendant light since if there is a lot of pressure it could spit out some water/steam) just to be on the safe side.

#4 Does this PC have option to brown your food?

Yes, a bit of oil in the bottom, saute setting, 3 minutes on each side and the meat is perfectly seared on both sides. Then remove the meat and put whatever else you are cooking in the pot and place the meat back in the pot, on top of your other items and steam. I always steam for 25 minutes with the few different recipes that I've done, steak and pork chops, and the meat is perfectly colored and you do not need a knife to cut it. Just a fork and the meat just falls apart beautifully
