One Year Limited Warranty
When assembled, operated and maintained according to alt instructionssupplied with
the product, if this vacuum cleaner fails due to a defect in material or workmanship
within one year from the date of purchase, return it to any Sears store, Sears Parts &
Repair Center or other Kenmore outlet for free repair.
If this vacuum cleaner is used for other than private family purposes, this warranty
applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.
This warranty covers only defects in material and workmanship. Sears will NOT pay
for:
1. Expendable items that can wear out from normal use, including but not limited to
filters, belts, light bulbs, and bags.
2. A service technician to instruct the user in correct product assembly, operation or
maintenance.
3. A service technician to clean or maintain this product.
4. Damage to or failure of this product if it is not assembled, operated or maintained
according to all instructions supplied with the product.
5. Damage to or failure of this product resulting from accident, abuse, misuse or use for
other than its intended purpose.
6. Damage to or failure of this product caused by the use of detergents, cleaners,
chemicals or utensils other than those recommended in all instructions supplied with
the product.
7. Damage to or failure of parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications
made to this product.

Customer's sole and exclusive remedy under this limited warranty shall be product
repair as provided herein. Implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability or
fitness for a particular purpose, are limited to one year or the shortest period allowed
by law. Sears shal! not be liable for incidental or consequential damages. Some states
and provinces do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential
damages, or limitations on the duration of implied warranties of merchantability or
fitness, so these exclusions or limitations may not apply to you.
This warranty applies only while this vacuum cleaner is used in the United States and
Canada.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which
vary from state to state.

sons or damage when using your vacuum cleaner, follow basic safety precautions in=
duding the following:
Use your vacuum cleaner only as
described inthisguide. Use only with
Sears recommended attachments.
Disconnect electrical supply before
servicingor cleaning out the brush area.
Failure to do socould result in the brush
unexpectedly starting, causing personal
injuryfrom moving parts.
Do not leave vacuum cleaner when
plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not
in useand before performing maintenance.
To reduce the risk of electrical shock - Do
not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
Do not allow to be usedas a toy. Close
attention isnecessary when used by or
near children.
Do not use with a damaged cord or plug.
If vacuum cleaner isnot working as it
should, has been dropped, damaged, left
outdoors, or dropped inwater, return it to
a Sears Service Center.
Do not pull or carry by cord, usecord as a
handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord
around sharp edges or corners. Do not run
vacuum cleaner over cord. Keep cord
away from heated surfaces.
Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To
unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
Do not handle plug or vacuum cleaner with
wet hands.
Do not put any objects into openings.
Do not use with any opening blocked;
keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything
that may reduce air flow.
Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all
parts of body away from openings and
moving parts.
Turn off all controls before unplugging.
Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
Do not put on chairs, tables, etc. Keep on
floor.
Do not usevacuum cleaner to pick up
flammable or combustible liquids
(gasoline, cleaning fluid, perfumes, etc.), or
use in areas where they may be present.
The fumes from thesesubstances can
create a fire hazard or explosion.
Do not pick up anything that isburning or
smoking,such as cigarettes, matches, or
hot ashes.
Do not use vacuum cleaner without dust
bag and/or filters in place.
Always replace the dust bag after
vacuuming carpet cleaners or freshener,
powders, and fine dust. These products
clog the filters, reduce airflow and can
cause damage to the vacuum cleaner.
Failure to replace the dust bag could cause
permanent damage to the vacuum cleaner.
Do not usethe vacuum cleaner to pick up
sharp hard objects, small toys, pins, paper
clips, etc. They may damage the vacuum
cleaner or dust bag.

Mate TM.
You are responsible for making sure that
your vacuum cleaner is not used by anyone
unable to operate it properly.

DO NOT touch the agitator when vacuum cleaner is
on. Contacting the agitator while it is rotating can
cut, bruise or cause other injuries. Always turn off
and unplug from electrical outlet before servicing.
Use caution when operating near children.

POWER CORD
1. Turn the quick
release upper

To reduce the risk of electric shock,
this vacuum cleaner has a polarized
plug (one blade is wider than the
other).
The plug will fit in a polarized outlet
only one way. If the plug does not fit
fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If
it still does not fit, contact a qualified
technician to install the proper outlet.
Do not change the plug in any way.

5. To restore cord, after use turn upper
cord hook to the up position, then wrap
cord loosely around quick release cord

RELEASING THE HANDLE
Releasethe handle by pressing down on the
handle release pedal with your foot and
pulling back and down on the handle with
your hand.
OFF/FLOOR/CARPET SWITCH
_CAUTION
Refer to your carpet manufacturers
cleaning recommendations. Some more
delicate carpets may require that they
be vacuumed with the agitator turned
off, to prevent carpet damage.
Note: The agitator does not rotate when the
vacuum cleaner is in the upright position.
To start the vacuum cleaner, slide the
OFF/FLOOR/CARPET switch from the OFF
position to the FLOOR or CARPET position.
To stop the vacuum cleaner, slide the
OFF/FLOOR/CARPET switch to the OFF
position.

_in one spot for any length of time when
_the agitator is turning. Damage to carpet
may occur.

hardwood floors, tile and delicate carpets.

SUGGESTED PILE HEIGHT SETTINGS
There are four (4) pile height settings on
the vacuum cleaner. For best deep down
cleaning, use the LO setting. However, you
may need to raise the height to make
some jobs easier, such as scatter rugs and
some deep pile carpets, and to prevent
the vacuum cleaner from shutting off.
Attention: Refer to your carpet
manufacturers cleaning
recommendations. Some more delicate
carpets may require that they be
vacuumed with the agitator turned off to
prevent carpet damage.
Suggested settings are:
HI - Shag, deep pile, or scatter rugs.
MNI - Medium to deep pile.
MLO - Low to medium pile.
LO - Most carpets, bare floors combined
with FLOOR power switch setting,
delicate carpets that require agitator to
be turned off.
PILEHEIGHT SELECTION AND SETTING
To select a pile height setting:
Select a pile height setting by pressing
the HEIGHT ADJUST pedal on the side of
the nozzle. The pile height setting shows
on the indicator window. See
SUGGESTED PILE HEIGHT SETTINGS
section above.

CHECK BAG iNDiCATOR
When the vacuum cleaner isrunning with
normal air flow, the light on the CHECK
BAG indicator isoff. The light comes on
whenever.
1. Bag isfull. See DUST BAG REPLACEMENT

2. the airflow becomes blocked. If that
occurs, check motor safety filter and other
possible clog locations shown in
REMOVING CLOGS. (Pages 21-22)
3. When using some attachments
NOTE: It isnormal for the CHECK BAG indi-
cator to come on when using certain at-
tachments, due to reduced airflow through
attachment. No maintenance is required.

to overextend the stretch hose when
reaching. Trying to reach beyond the

TELESCOPING WAND
The wand length isadjustable and requires
no assembly. To adjust, simply pressbutton
on the wand handle and slide the upper
wand to the desired length, release button
and move innerwand in or out until it locks.

Always clean attachments before using on fabrics.
_Use the combination brush without the brush for greater suction on furniture cushions or
stairs. Use combination brush with brush for cleaning loose surfaces such as drapes.

Use care if vacuum cleaner is placed on
stairs, if it fails, personal injury or prop=
erty damage could result.
Unit Tipping
When using the attachments keep the
extension hose release lever in the locked
position when possible. This helps to keep
the vacuum cleaner from tipping over
when stretching the hose. If additional
hose is needed then unlock the release
lever and pull out additional hose. Use
caution not to tip over vacuum cleaner.
For best cleaning results, keep the airflow
passage clear. Unplug the vacuum
cleaner from the outlet before checking.

MOTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM
1. Thermal Protector - Suction Motor
This vacuum cleaner has a thermal
protector which automatically trips to
protect the vacuum cleaner suction motor.
If a clog prevents the normal flow of air
to the motor, the thermal protector turns
the motor off automatically. This allows
the motor to coot in order to prevent
possible damage to the vacuum cleaner.
2. Thermal Protector - Agitator Motors
This vacuum cleaner has thermal
protectors which automatically trip to
protect the agitator motors. The thermal
protectors turn the motors off
automatically. This altows the motors to
cool in order to prevent possible damage
to the vacuum cleaner.
To reset thermal protectors: Turn the
vacuum cleaner off and unplug the power
cord from the outlet to allow the vacuum
cleaner to cool and the thermal
protectors to reset.
CAUTION
Always return the vacuum cleaner to the
upright position before using the hose
and attachments. Failure to do so may
result in overheating of the agitator
motors and can cause the thermal
protectors to trip.
Check for and remove clogs, and replace
bag if necessary. See REMOVING CLOGS
Section (Page 2|-22). Also check and
replace any clogged filters. Wait
approximately 40-50 minutes before
restartlng vacuum cleaner.
3. By-Pass Valve
This vacuum cleaner has a By-Pass Valve
which prevents motor overheating and
damage. The valve opens to provide
cooling air when a clog prevents normal
air flow to the vacuum cleaner suction
motor. You wilt notice a change of sound
as air rushes through the valve opening.

To correct problem, install a new dust
bag. If using attachments, adjust to allow
for greater air flow.
NOTE: The By-Pass Valve may open when
using attachments or when cleaning new
carpet due to reduced airflow caused by
the attachments themselves or by new
carpet lint filling the dust bag quickly.
NOTE: Do not block By-Pass Valve.

forming maintenance to the vacuum

vacuum cleaner suddenly starting.
4. AGITATOR OVERLOAD
PROTECTOR
The agitator has built-in protection
against motor damage should the
agitator jam. If the agitator slows down
or stops, the agitator overload protector
shuts off the agitator motors. The vacuum
cleaner suction motor will continue to run.
Tocorrect problem: Turn off and unplug
vacuum cleaner, remove obstruction, then
press AGITATOR RESETBUTTON.
NOTE: Once the agitator motor shuts
down, clear jam from agitator and
wait a minimum of 20 seconds before
resetting overload protector.
If the problem persists, have the vacuum
cleaner serviced by a Sears or other
qualified technician.
DIRT SENSOR
The electronic dirt sensor is a feature
which will detect particles as they pass
through the vacuum cleaner.
The dirt sensor indicators are located on
the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner.
* When little or no dirt is present the
dirt sensor is green.
* With medium or heavy concentration
the dirt sensor is red.
OPERATION
As you vacuum, the red indicator light
will come on and stay on as long as the
sensor detects a high concentration of
particles passing through the vacuum
cleaner.

Gather the cord and wrap it loosely around
the upper and lower cord hooks. Lock

area, on the floor with the handle locked in
the upright position.

CLEANING EXTERIOR AND ATTACHMENTS
1. Turn off and unplug vacuum cleaner. DO
NOT drip water on vacuum cleaner.
2. To clean exterior, or to reduce static elec-
tricity and dust build-up, wipe outer surface
of vacuum cleaner and attachments. Use a
clean, soft cloth that has been dipped in a
solution of mild liquid detergent and water,
then wrung dry. Wipe dry after cleaning.
Wash attachments in warm soapy water,
rinse and air dry. Do not clean in
dishwasher.
CAUTION
Do not use attachments if they ore wet.
Attachments used in dirty areas, such
as under a refrigerator, should not be
used on other surfaces until they are
washed. They could leave mares.
CLEANING DiRT SENSOR OPTICS
TO CLEAN DiRT SENSOR OPTICS
The dirt sensor optics consist of two optic
cells located inside the dust bag port.
Occasionally, it may become necessary
to clean the two optic cells to ensure

To clean the sensor, wipe the optic cells
with a soft, dry cloth. Never use
cleaners or liquids as they can help
speed the recoating of the optic cells

NEVER REUSE A DUST BAG. Very fine
materlals, such as carpet freshener, face
powder, fine dust, piaster, soot, etc. can
clog the bag and cause it to burst before
it is full. Change bag more often when
vacuuming these materials.

Lift the filter cover door located at the
bottom of the dust container and check the
filter (see illustration), if the filter is dirty,
remove it by pulling it toward you out of the
dust container.
Wash the filter in warm soapy water, rinse
and dry thoroughly by squeezing the excess
water out of the filter and allowing to air dry
for 24 hours
DO NOT wash in the dishwasher.
DO NOT install damp.
Replace the foam filter by raisingthe filter
cover door and placing it in the slots
provided and slide it to the back of the dust
compartment until it isin place. Close the
filter cover door.

The EXHAUST HEPA FILTER must be
replaced when it becomes dirty. The
timing between replacement intervals will
depend on the use conditions the vacuum
cleaner is exposed to, The EXHAUST
HEPA FILTER should be checked when
changing the dust bag. The filter
CANNOT be washed as it will lose its
dust trapping ability.

CARBON FILTER REPLACEMENT
The carbon filter is located in a recess
behind the Exhaust HEPA Filter. The
carbon filter will lose its odor-absorbing
capability over time. It should be
repUacedevery three to six months for
maximum effectiveness.

1. Rotate the extension hose release lever
counter-clockwise to release extension hose.
2. Remove the upper end of the extension
hose from the wand holder by twisting, and
pulling straight up.
3. Plug in the vacuum cleaner and turn it on.

Hay 4 ajustes de nivet. Use el ajuste LO
(bajo) para obtener la mejor limpieza a
rondo. Pot otra parte, qWz6s se requiera

largo, y para impedir que la aspiradora

Cuando use los accesorios mantenga la
palanca de liberaci6n la manguera ex-

sea posible. Esto ayuda a mantener la as-
piradora sin caerse cuando se estira la
manguera. Si se necesita manguera adi-
cional entonces abra la palanca de soltar
y saque manguera adicional. Use pre-
cauci6n para no voltear la aspiradora.
Para obtener los mejores resultados de
limpieza, mantenga desbloqueados los
conductos de flujo de aire. Desconecte la
aspiradora del enchufe antes de exami-
narla.

SISTEMA DE PROTECCION
DE MOTOR
1. Protector Termal - Succi6n del Motor
Esta aspiradoro tiene un protector termal
que se ajusta autom6ticamente para
proteger a ta aspiradora dei
sobrecalentamiento. Si una obstrucci6n
impide el flujo normal de aire at motor, el
protector termat apaga et motor
autom6ticamente para permitir que el
motor se enfr[e a fin de evitar posibles
da_os a la aspiradora.
2. Protector Termai- Motores del agltador
Esta aspiradora esta equipada con
protectores de sobre catentamiento en los
motores del agitador que se activan
autom6ticamente para la protecci6n de
los motores. Estos protectores
desconectan de toda corriente et_ctrica a
los motores autom6ticamente cuando
existe un sobrecalentamiento. Esto
permite que los motores se enfr[en y que
no se vayan a fundir o sufrir un
desperfecto.
Para correglr el problema: Si esto ocurre,
apague la aspiradora y desenchufe et
cord6n det tomacorriente para permifir
que la aspiradora se enfr[e y que el
protector termal se reajuste.
CUIDADO
Siempre regrese la aspiradora a la
posici6n vertical antes de usar la
manguera y los accesorlos. La falla de
este es el resultado del sobre
calentamiento de los motores del
agltador. Estopuede causar que el
)rotector termal se active.
Busque y saque las obstrucclones o
camble la bolsa, si es necesario. Examine
tambi_n y reemplace cualquler filtro
obstruido. Espereaproxlmadamente 40=
50 mlnutos y enchufe la aspiradora V

Esta aspiradora contiene una v61vuta de
paso de aire que sirve como V61vula de
paso y cuando un bloqueo impida que
circule el aire ai motor se abre
autom6ticamente para proveer un flu]o

impide el sobre calentamiento del motor
y como consecuencia que esta se dame.
Usted podr6 notar un sonido diferente at
norman cuando esta v61vula se activa y el
aire pasa par ella.

ajuste este para tenet un mayor flujo de

estar abierta mientras se usan los

nueva a causa de un flujo reducido de
aire por los accesorios mismos o par la
peiusa de la alfombra que Ilene la
bolsa rapidamente.
Nota: No obstruya el V61vula de paso.

detiene, el protector de sobrecarga del

Para reinstalar o remplazar la cubierta
de la balsa de polvo.
1. Alinee et perno de bisagra de la cu-
bierta de la bolsa con el agujero en la
cavidad de la bolsa.
2. Gire la cubierta de la balsa a su lugar.
3. Usted debe escuchar un chasquido
cuando et perno de bisagra se encaja a
presi6n en su lugar.
Para un aspirado eficiente, el agitador deber
ser mantenido libre de fibras de alfombra,
hilos_o acumulaci6n de pelo. Luego de 7 a 10
usos, desenchufe y d_ vuelta a la aspiradora y
revise el agitador para ver si tiene acumula-
ci6n de hilos, fibras o pelo.
Usetijeras para sacar cualquier acumulaci6n
atorada akededor de1agitador.
Proceda siempre con precauciones de
seguridad antes de efectuar el manteni-
miento a su aspiradora.
ADVERTENCIA

Desconecte la unidad antes de efectuar el
mantenimlento a su asplradora. De Io contra-
rio podria producirse un choque el_ctrlco o
causar lesi6n corporal sl la aspiradora

MANGUERAS
Si la aspiradora no parece tener sufi-
ciente succi6n, revise sila bolsa del polvo
est6 Itena o si el filtro est6 tapado. Ver
CAMBIO DE LA BOLSA PARA POLVO y
FILTRO DE PROTECCION AL MOTOR.

Si ta balsa del potvo y 6reas del filtro
est6n libres de trabas, revise la man-
guera expansible.

PARA REMOVER LA OBSTRUC-
CION DE LA MANGUERA
1. Gire la palanca de sottar la manguera
expansible en direcci6n de las acjujas del
reloj para soltar la monguera expansible.
2. Remueva el extremo superior de la
manguera expansible det porta-tubo to-
mando del cuetto de la manguera, gi-
rando, y tirando derecho hacia afuera.
3. Enchufe la aspiradora y enciendala.
