Rain Bird SST-900I Questions and Answers

#1 Can this handle two zones at the same exact time?

No. I don't think most residential systems are designed to run more than one zone at a time... that would require more power and water pressure than normal.

#2 I have an old rain bird timer. The wiring looks vastly different than what is installed... What is the deal with wiring? Also is there a rain sensor

The wiring is simple and the programming even simpler then the older units. I found the instructions very easy to understand and their tech support very good. The rain sensor is an extra component that you can add or not. The unit is capable of more then the average person needs.

#3 I currently have a toro controller can I switch to rain bird?

I did exactly that. The Rain Bird is easy to install. Just mark all of your wires as you disconnect them. Programming is easy as well.

#4 Can you run the controller manually?

Yes. With the controller in the "off" position, manual mode defaults to 10 minutes. for whatever zone you chose. With the controller in the "auto run" position, you can run manually from zone 1 followed by the next zone until you stop. Each zone defaults to 30 minutes.

#5 Can I set one of the zones to water once every month and another zone 3 times a week or is it only capable of weekly programming like my older unit?

You can set which zones to water and which not but all zones that are active well be on the same program. I am not where i can look at the unit if i find out different i will repost

#6 How and where can i install the rain sensor? How this work, if its raining i would not like to watering.

Rain sensors are wired into the clock/timer/controller and water makes an electrical connection and shuts off the controller. The sensor needs to be mounted anywhere it can have rain water contact.
