Before operating, ALWAYS lift from the bottom by using the handles located on the base. Lifting
the water tank handle on the water tank will cause the tank to detach from the humidier.
Check appliance for visible damage. DO NOT USE if there is evidence of damage. If any damage
is found, contact Vornado Air, LLC at 1-800-234-0604.
CAUTION: When removing water tanks lift vertically, do not twist tanks while still in base or
cap may disengage and leak.
WARNING: To avoid overlling the base, remove the water tanks before the power head to
avoid water displacement.

ATTENTION CODES
A1: Power head is not attached to the base. If you detach the power head
while the humidier is running, or if power head is not properly attached
to the base, the humidier will power off. Control panel LED’s ash and
display A1. Power button illuminates orange until power head is attached and
aligned with the base correctly and Element is powered back on.
CH: When the water tank runs out of water, a "CH" auto rell notication code
will ash for 5 seconds on the control panel every 15 seconds until the tank
is relled. Once water is added "CH" code will clear after a short period of
time. Unit does not need to be powered on as it will automatically resume
operation once water is added. Note: When tank is out of water, there will be
no visible steam.
CL: When the heat element has accumulated mineral scale and cleaning is
needed, a "CL" cleaning notication code will ash for 5 seconds on the
control panel every 15 seconds until cleaned. Once clean, "CL" code will
clear. The unit will continue running and will not turn off due to "CL" code.
Note: If the unit is used for an extended period of time after being notied of
"CL" code but still has not been cleaned, a decrease in visible steam plume
may be noticeable. This indicates diminished performance.
AROMATHERAPY SCENT CUP
Element is aromatherapy ready; just add your favorite essential oils. The steam
will heat the oil and the fragrances will be released via evaporation ensuring the
therapeutic properties are not damaged or altered. Follow the essential oils usage
instructions as directed. Clean the scent cup and lid periodically even if using the
same oil repeatedly. If using different blends or fragrances, clean between each
use. Do not overll the scent cup or put any oils directly into the water tank,
outlet grill, area under the scent cup, or base. Avoid transferring oils to the
control panel or ring around the outlet grill as decolorization or a reaction to the
surface may occur.

CLEANING THE BASE
1. Turn humidier off and unplug.
Note: Be sure you are near a sink or an area that will not be damaged by water. Excess water will ush
from heat element cover when disassembling.
WARNING: To avoid overlling the base, remove the water tanks before the power head to
avoid water displacement.
2. Disassemble humidier:
Remove water tanks rst.
Next remove water tank support rods by pulling the rods outward.
Then remove power head by turning power head counterclockwise to release from base and
remove the magnetic base cover and all silicone parts. WARNING: Do not grasp outlet grill to
remove power head, it may be hot.
3. Clean base and silicone parts with warm water and a mild detergent. Rinse and dry.
4. Reassemble humidier:
Ensure the magnetic base cover and silicone parts are back in place.
WARNING: Do not run humidier without the silicone parts.

Let humidier dry completely
before storing. Do not store with
water inside water tank, base or
around the heat element.
WATER TANK IMPURITIES:
On occasion the water tank
may need to be gently wiped
down or cleaned to remove
build-up of impurities. Clean
with a mild detergent and
cool water.
If the humidier is turned off with water in base for 8 hours or longer, or
if humidier is not cleaned as recommended, you may experience some
growth of algae or bacteria. These microorganisms may become airborne.

MINERAL BUILD-UP
The best way to minimize mineral build-up is to use distilled or de-mineralized water when
using your Element Steam Humidier. It is recommended the heat element and silicone parts
be cleaned weekly or when Attention Code "CL" appears on control panel in order to remove
any deposits that form. This will help to extend the life of the product and keep it functioning
at its maximum potential.
Note: Do not use hard brushes, steel wool or other abrasives on heat
element to avoid damage.
WARNING: Allow unit to cool (30 minutes for complete cooling)
before cleaning heat element. Do not allow heat element to touch
other objects as it cools.
REMOVE MINERAL BUILD-UP
The Element Steam Humidier includes a packet of Vornado Cleaner & Descaler. Consisting
of citric acid, this agent is used to loosen and remove mineral build-up on the heat element. It
is easy-to-use and safe for all Vornado Steam Humidiers.
1. Turn off humidier, unplug and let cool before cleaning. Do not run unit at any time during
the cleaning process. Disassemble humidier as outlined in CLEANING.
2. Empty any water in base and silicone boil chamber & reservoir.
3. Combine granules from the cleaning packet and mix with 6 oz. of water in a measuring cup
(not included) until completely dissolved. Pour mixture into the silicone boil chamber and
background
22 English
reservoir in base. If using more than 6 oz. of water, some
will ow into the base. This will not hurt base but it is not
needed.
4. Position magnetic base cover back onto base. Set power
head on base and attach (without silicone heat element
cover attached). This will submerge heat element directly
into the mixture. Soak for 30 minutes to an hour or longer
depending on amount of build-up. You may scrub the
heat element with a soft bristle brush as particles begin
to loosen. Avoid hard brushes or steel wool as they can
damage the heat element.
5. Once clean, thoroughly rinse base, silicone parts and heat element with cool tap water to
ensure all residue is gone before using.
6. Avoid dumping water or the mixture into the two drain holes located on underside of
powerhead during cleaning.
NOTE: Undiluted white vinegar may also be used for cleaning the heat element, however,
citric acid is recommended.
For replacement packets (MD1-0037), call Vornado Consumer Service at 800-234-0604.
