what makes the red water light come on and it has water? it will not steam.

I use this iron when I am quilting and I cannot get it to stay hot and produce steam for any length of time. Is there something I need to do after turning the iron on to keep it producing steam and staying hot for longer than a couple of minutes?
Can’t get new co,mpsck steam station to steam
My iron takes 15 minutes to make steam and soleplate is not hot. I cannot figure anything from the tiny pictures they call a user manual. Don't know if I have a setting issue or need a repair.
