i accidentally let my kettle boil dry. The element was so bright it showed through the white plastic. I immediately unplugged it. There is now black residue at the bottom of kettle & the element is discolored. After cooling I rinsed the deposits out, then filled it and it seems to operate normally. I am worried though. Is it safe to use?

Yes, it's safe. The Kettle element is protected by an automatic safety device. If the Kettle is accidentally switched on without water, or is allowed to boil dry, the Kettle will automatically repeat a cycle of switching off, cooling down, and switching back on. If this happens, you should:

    1. Unplug the Kettle.
    2. Wait about 20 minutes for the element to cool down and then use as normal and check that the Kettle functions correctly.
