Not sure what app you are talking about. This has proven to be a most excellent router giving us greatly improved connectivity to all our smart Home devices.

it showed up seperately on one of my computers, but only the 2.4 Ghz showed up on my laptop. The "helpful" support person told me it would be a fee to have him help me to get the other one online and to change the password from the one on the router label. Also, he tried to talk me into a firewall protection for $130.00 lifetime (of the routers life).

The faster the modem speed the better the Wi-fi speeds will be. Most ISPs base their monthly rates on what the consumer pays for. i.e., one pays a higher monthly rate for faster ISP speeds that are sent to the modem. Expect Wi-fi speeds to be about half as fast as direct line modem or router hook ups. A wired line from the router to a computer will enable faster speeds. One other thing, Wi-fi speeds may vary depending on the number of computers, phones, etc. using the Wi-fi. Setup is fairly easy and speeds haven't been an issue with our router even with about 10 Wi-fi connections.

A router requires an ip address to connect... A hot spot does not provide the user the ip address just the option to connect.
