oftheHACActistoensurereasonableaccesstotelecommunications
servicesforpersonswithhearingdisabilities.Whilesomewirelessphones
areusednearsomehearingdevices(hearingaidsandcochlearimplants),
usersmaydetectabuzzing,humming,orwhiningnoise.Somehearing
devicesaremoreimmunethanotherstothisinterferencenoise,and
phonesalsovaryintheamountofinterferencetheygenerate.Thewireless
telephoneindustryhasdevelopedaratingsystemforwirelessphones,to

Underthelaw,theFDAdoesnotreviewthesafetyofradiation-emitting
consumerproductssuchaswirelessphonesbeforetheycanbesold,asit

3. What kinds of phones are the subject of this update?
Theterm“wirelessphone”refersheretohandheldwirelessphoneswith
built-inantennas,oftencalled“cell”,“mobile”,or“PCS”phones.These
typesofwirelessphonescanexposetheusertomeasurableRadio
Frequency(RF)energybecauseoftheshortdistancebetweenthephone
andtheuser’shead.
TheseRFexposuresarelimitedbyFCCsafetyguidelinesthatwere
developedwiththeadviceoftheFDAandotherfederalhealthandsafety
agencies.Whenthephoneislocatedatgreaterdistancesfromtheuser,
theexposuretoRFisdrasticallylowerbecauseaperson'sRFexposure

4. What are the results of the research done already?
Theresearchdonethusfarhasproducedconictingresults,andmany
studieshavesufferedfromawsintheirresearchmethods.Animal
experimentsinvestigatingtheeffectsofRadioFrequency(RF)energy
exposurescharacteristicofwirelessphoneshaveyieldedconictingresults
thatoftencannotberepeatedinotherlaboratories.Afewanimalstudies,
however,havesuggestedthatlowlevelsofRFcouldacceleratethe
developmentofcancerinlaboratoryanimals.However,manyofthestudies
thatshowedincreasedtumordevelopmentusedanimalsthathadbeen
geneticallyengineeredortreatedwithcancercausingchemicalssoastobe
pre-disposedtodevelopcancerintheabsenceofRFexposure.Other
studiesexposedtheanimalstoRFforupto22hoursperday.These
conditionsarenotsimilartotheconditionsunderwhichpeopleuse
wirelessphones,sowedonotknowwithcertaintywhattheresultsof
suchstudiesmeanforhumanhealth.Threelargeepidemiologystudies
havebeenpublishedsinceDecember2000.Betweenthem,
thestudies
investigatedanypossibleassociationbetweentheuseofwirelessphones
andprimarybraincancer,glioma,meningioma,oracousticneuroma,
tumorsofthebrainorsalivarygland,leukemia,orothercancers.Noneof
thestudiesdemonstratedtheexistenceofanyharmfulhealtheffectsfrom
wirelessphoneRFexposures.However,noneofthestudiescananswer
questionsaboutlong-termexposures,sincetheaverageperiodofphone
useinthesestudieswasaroundthreeyears.
5. What research is needed to decide whether RF exposure from
wireless phones poses a health risk?
Acombinationoflaboratorystudiesandepidemiologicalstudiesofpeople
actuallyusingwirelessphoneswouldprovidesomeofthedatathatare
needed.Lifetimeanimalexposurestudiescouldbecompletedinafew
years.However,verylargenumbersofanimalswouldbeneededtoprovide

LGoffersyoualimitedwarrantythattheenclosedsubscriberunitandits
enclosedaccessorieswillbefreefromdefectsinmaterialand
workmanship,accordingtothefollowingtermsandconditions:
(1) ThelimitedwarrantyfortheproductextendsforTWELVE(12)
MONTHSbeginningonthedateofpurchaseoftheproductwithvalid
proofofpurchase,orabsentvalidproofofpurchase,FIFTEEN(15)
MONTHSfromdateofmanufactureasdeterminedbytheunit's
manufacturedatecode.
(2) Thelimitedwarrantyextendsonlytotheoriginalpurchaserofthe
productandisnotassignableortransferabletoanysubsequent
purchaser/enduser.
(3) Thiswarrantyisgoodonlytotheoriginalpurchaseroftheproduct

(5) Productswhichhavehadtheserialnumberremovedormadeillegible.
(6) Thislimitedwarrantyisinlieuofallotherwarranties,expressor

(10)Productsusedorobtainedinarentalprogram.
(11)Consumables(suchasfuses).
3. WHAT LG WILL DO:
LGwill,atitssoleoption,eitherrepair,replaceorrefundthepurchaseprice
ofanyunitthatiscoveredunderthislimitedwarranty.LGmaychooseatits
optiontousefunctionallyequivalentre-conditioned,refurbishedornew
unitsorpartsoranyunits.Inaddition,LGwillnotre-installorback-upany
data,applicationsorsoftwarethatyouhaveaddedtoyourphone.Itis
thereforerecommendedthatyouback-upanysuchdataorinformation
priortosendingtheunittoLGtoavoidthepermanentlossofsuch
