We wouldn't not recommend using the appliance without the decor door attached. This can be a safety issue as the door is set for the weight of an exterior door. This can result in the door springing back up when pulled down to load the dishwasher.

#4 In the instructions step 1 it shows a metal strip being screwed to the underneath of the worktop, is this only needed for wooden tops as I have granite so can't fix?

Yes this is a plate to protect the wood from steam. You will not need for granite.

#5 What is the maximum weight allowed for the decor panel?

The minimum weight is 2.5 kg with the maximum being 8.5 kg.
