Replacing the Needle
GETTING READY
Basic operations B-27
B
Be sure to observe the following precautions concerning the
handling of the needle. Failure to observe these precautions is
extremely dangerous, for example, if the needle breaks and
fragments are dispersed. Be sure to read and carefully follow
the instructions below.
Checking the needle
Sewing with a bent needle is extremely dangerous since the
needle may break while the machine is being operated.
Before using the needle, place the flat side of the needle on a
flat surface and check that the distance between the needle
and the flat surface is even.

Never use bent needles. Bent needles can
easily break, possibly resulting in injuries.
CAUTION
If the distance between the needle and the flat
surface is not even, the needle is bent. Do not
use a bent needle.

Note
Replace the needle in cases such as the four
described below:
1 If an unusual sound is produced when the needle
enters the fabric while sewing trial stitches at low
speed. (The tip of the needle may be broken.)
2 If stitches are skipped. (The needle may be bent.)
3 After completing one project, such as a piece of
clothing.
4 After using three full bobbins of thread.
CAUTION
Before replacing the needle, be sure to turn off
the machine, otherwise injuries may occur if
the “Start/Stop” button or any other button is
pressed and the machine starts operating.
Note
Before replacing the needle, cover the hole in the
needle plate with fabric or paper to prevent the
needle from falling into the machine.
