#1 Do you have to use an adapter for the USA, or it works fine plugged in directly?

Works fine on 110 in USA. Plug as supplied is correct.

#2 Is this really as good as the video says it is, chopping food etc?

The immersion part is really quite amazing. Lots of power and yet very good control. The other pieces are sort of nice to have when you don't feel like pulling out the big food processor or your hand mixer.
