GE - General Electric GTE18GTHCC Questions and Answers

#1 Why do I get so much frost and ice formation on anything I have in my GE top freezer. The model number is GTE17DTNDRCC. The refrigerator is one year old. Higher settings don't help. Also I do not leave doors open very long. It has always done this.

If the doors are opened frequently, left open, or even left slightly ajar, it would be normal to see a frost build-up on the shelves, packages, or walls. To resolve this issue, we recommend following the steps below:

- Remove any visible frost build-up with a dry towel.
- Check to ensure the doors close properly.
- Check the door gasket. If the gasket has cuts/tears/rips it needs to be replaced.
- Check door alignment. If the doors are uneven, refer to your Installation Instructions.
- Make sure the refrigerator is leveled properly. The doors should close on their own. Refer to your Installation Instructions.

#2 Is this refrigerator self defrosting?? Thank you.

This is a "Frost-free" defrost model freezer, which is a type of automatic defrosting. Frost-free refrigerators and upright freezers defrost automatically either on a time-based system (Defrost Timer) or usage-based system (Adaptive Defrost).

#3 How to fix scratches ... I want to buy a product but works only in kit coated steel, so I don’t know if this one have been coated or not, can you tell me? And any ideas o suggestions on products to fix scratches...

Kitchen appliances made for use inside the home do not have coated stainless steel. Cleaners that contain Oxalic Acid, such as Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser, will remove rust, tarnish, and small blemishes. Use only the liquid cleanser (free of grit) and be sure rub in the direction of the metal grain lines with a damp soft sponge.
If the stainless is scratched, using one of these cleaning methods can often help reduce the appearance of the scratches. For visible scratches, there is not an approved repair method to cover the scratches. We hope this helps!
