Ubiquiti UAP-AC-M Questions and Answers

#1 Will the wireless signal go through metal RV walls?

There are a lot of factors to wireless signal getting through metal walls. Proximity of antenna to wall. Thickness of wall. Proximity of receiving device to wall on other side. 2.4GHz vs 5GHz. Speed of interest. Minimum acceptable speed of receiving device. Some of the signal will go through, and their will be a speed degradation. It's all about how much loss is acceptable.

#2 Can I connect/power it only through the poe secondary port at the
bottom instead of the main port at the back?

No, you can only power up the unit from the main poe in the back
the bottom is output poe only

#3 Can this be used as a simple wireless range extender?

Yes, it can, you just need to set it up as a bridge mode AP. I did this
for mine. I don't recall the specific steps, but there was helpful
information on line about how to not need to use all the mesh
software/tooling that is also available for this and related devices.

#4 So this device comes with all the power source it needs? i see
there is power cable and some 48v adapter on the picture? then
all i need is a modem?

Yes, this is just the access point. A modem is just giving you
ainternet ccess via wire. If you add this, then you can access the
internet wirelessly

#5 I already have a home network setup, can i use this AP without
buying other hardware?

No. This product isn’t designed to work with other APs. It uses is a
proprietary back channel network that can be centrally controlled.

#6 Can I use 2 of these in my home to create better coverages but not
have to create two separate logins?

Yes for sure, we have more then one as well. But based on your
question I am not sure you have the necessary skill set to
properly set them up. It’s not like a linksys router from Best Buy.
You need medium level network skills to set up a Ubiquiti
network. I suggest you contact a local company to do it for you

#7 Is this a router?

It is not a router. It is wireless access point designed for a large
number of devices. It only provides wireless access to a network
that should have a router.

#8 I have nighthawk WiFi router that does not reach my garage.
Can I simply hook this up through the Ethernet port and create a
seperate ssid name?

You can set it up with the same SSID and pass on a different
channel and roam from one to the other....yes to running it off an
ethernet port from the nighthawk.....

#9 I have an ethernet cable run to my smart tv...can i run that network
cable into this ap and then run the second port to the tv?

Yes, this is designed to replace your existing network wall outlet,
although if I remember correctly it can just surface mount too.
You remove the existing wall cover, plug the existing cable into
the back of this unit and you have 2 network jacks on the
bottom to run to other wired devices. You will need to provide
POE from the network source to power this device.
