Don't know for sure, but my guess is that it's part of the security built into the system. It communicates to the cloud to store the videos captured by the system. I had NO problems connecting their base station (router) to mine. I even have it connected to an access point, not directly to my router.

Well also once that camera is linked to your account only you can use it. When someone else goes to plug it in it will instantly record the theif. Why worry about it being stolen it gonna record the theif in the action of taking it and also you would never mount it within arms reach anyways so what’s the worry?

If the power is disrupted to your wifi, you can't record. You can get anew inexpensive UPS for your Internet / wifi system and this should take care of this issue.

Yes these cameras will definately help, just take your time when placing them to get best view and coverage.
