Bosch KGV33VLEAG Questions and Answers

#1 Can you transport a fridge on its side?

It is always best to keep a fridge or freezer upright when moving, but you can transport a fridge on its side too. Just remember that before it is plugged in and switched on, it should be left upright for a minimum of 3 hours. The reason is refrigerant is a heavy gas and being on its side will pull that gas from the pump. By letting it sit in upright position will able the gas to go back to the pump.

Good to know

If the appliance was left on its side for more than a day, let it stand for 24 hours before plugging it in.
When laid on its side, ensure that the process tubes (the ones that pipe the refrigerant around) are on the upside when laying down. This will ensure that the oil does not "leave" the compressor.
Do NOT transport or lay a fridge or freezer on its back. This will likely damage the parts even if they are not visible.

#2 How to defrost a fridge freezer

1. Switch off the appliance from the mains and unplug it.
2. Take out the freezer draws and keep them in cool place.
3. Put some layers of towels or plastic liners, gathered around the base of your freezer to absorb all the moisture.
4. Use baking trays or any shallow dish to catch the excess water by putting them on top of towels under the edge of the freezers.
5. If your freezer has a drainage hose, put the end of a hose in a low basin or bucket to assist with removing water easily.
6. You might need to carefully place shims under the front legs of your freezer to angle it back towards the hose to assist with drainage process.
7. To speed up the defrosting process, place two pots of hot water on trivets inside your appliance while defrosting it.
8. Leave the freezer door open, and wait for the ice to melt on its own.
9. After defrosting, empty out all the collected water and wipe any residual defroster water at the bottom or side walls of your freezer with a sponge and with a Bosch Fridge Cleaner for thorough cleaning. Close the drainage hose again.
10. Plug it in and switch on the appliance. Allow it run for an hour and shelves or draws to be air dry completely before keeping your food.

#3 How to change the fridge water filter

1. Check your appliance's instruction manual if you need help with locating your fridge water filter. Usually water filters are located and covered in the upper right hand corner of your refrigerator or in the base grille.
2. Turn off the water supply.
3. Lift the filter cover up.
4. Pull the filter out from the fridge and discard it.
5. Open your new filter and install it by twisting it clockwise to lock it in place.
6. After installing, turn on the water supply and dispense around two gallons of water before drinking to remove air and contaminants from the water supply.
TIP: You can use the water in other household work or to water your plants.

Caution

After installing a new filter, always discard the ice produced within the first 24 hours after switching on the ice maker.
If the appliance or the ice has not been used actively for several weeks or months or if the ice cubes have an unpleasant taste or odour, change the water filter.
We do not recommend that you clean and reuse water filters.

#4 How to remove the fridge freezer drip tray

Step by step guide
1. Locate the drip tray. If you need help, check your appliance's instruction manual.
2. Disconnect the power supply and turn off the water supply if your freeze has one to avoid leakage.
3. For drip trays which are located in the rear, you may have to carefully unscrew the back panel.
4. Now, carefully pull the back panel and keep it aside.
5. For drip trays located in front of the fridge, you may need to pop off the kick panel at the bottom of the fridge by sliding a putty knife.
6. After one side of the panel has been popped out, carefully pull out the whole kick panel and keep it aside.
7. If you see the drip tray, hold it with both hands and try to pull it out slowly. If, there are heating coils above drip tray, you cannot move it and you have to clean it while in its place.
8. Once, the drip tray is out, empty all the remaining water into sink drain and spray with leaching solution and allow it to sit there for 3 to 4 mintues.
9. Rinse drip tray under warm running water and clean it with scrub or paper towels to remove any remaining residue.
10. Wait for the dip dray to dry completely and then reinstall it again by sliding it back into the fridge.

#5 How long will food last in a freezer without power?

Steps you can take
1. You should keep the doors of your fridge and freezer closed after power cut.
2. Food can remain fresh up to four hours in a refrigerator, 48 hours in a full freezer, and 24 hours in a half freezer.
3. Meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, soft cheeses, shredded cheeses, and milk should all be tossed if their temperature is at 4 °C or above for more than two hours.
4. If a power failure or malfunction occurs, ice blocks can be used to slow down the thawing process. Layer your food with ice blocks and if possible, add to a cold bag.
5. The longest storage time is obtained by placing the ice pack on the food in the top compartment.
