Sony D-F415 Questions and Answers

#1 How to clean a CD, DVD or Blu-ray Disc media?

Use a soft, dry cloth to carefully wipe the disc from the center outward as follows.
WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, commercially available disc or lens cleaners, or anti-static spray intended for vinyl record LPs. Using liquid cleaners can damage the disc contents.
NOTE: Dust, fingerprints or scratches may cause the disc to malfunction. Always handle the disc by its edge and do not touch the surface. Also, store the disc in its case when not in use.

#2 Can I Recover Information from a Damaged Recording Media?

Yes, you can still recover data stored on a damaged recording media, as long as the files have not been written over. The severity or type of damage your recording media sustained is a main factor on the success rate of data recovery. Below are examples of recording media available:
- Tapes (VHS, Microcassette, Audio)
- Compact Discs (CD)
- DVDs
- Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) media
- Flash media (such as Memory Stick® media or Micro Vault® storage devices)

#3 What is Shuffle Play and what are the differences with the various Shuffle modes?

The Shuffle Play mode allows audio tracks from both a compact disc (CD) and a USB device to be played back in random order.
NOTE: USB compatibility and/or the Shuffle Play mode is not available on every audio product. To verify whether your unit has a USB port or has any of the available Shuffle Play modes, check the operating instructions. Manuals are posted on your model support page.
The differences in the various Shuffle modes are as follows:
- Track Shuffle - shuffles the whole album.
- Unit Shuffle - shuffles the whole playlist regardless of album.
- Shuffle play - shuffles all discs within a single group or all discs in the changer.
- Group Shuffle play - will not allow for the shuffling of more than one group.
- All Disc Shuffle - will not allow specific groups to be eliminated from shuffling.

#4 What is the difference between Compact Discs (CDs) and Music CDs?

The quality of the CD and Music CD media are the same. However, CD-R music discs are encoded with information that the CD recorder uses to identify the disc as the appropriate music media. This information is used for the creation of the file allocation table (FAT), which is where information is stored regarding the physical location of every file on the disc. The CD-R music discs also maintain copy protection and do not permit producing copies from copies.
