Whynter FM-65G Questions and Answers

#1 Do any of these come with no shelf, as in just one big freezer/fridge to throw things in?Howmany 1 gallon jars or 5 gallon buckets fit?

It's like a large cooler with baskets rather than shelves. Two 5 gallon buckets, but quarts and gallons would fit better.

#2 Can this be kept outdoors?

Yes you can, I kept mine outside for 2 months when I lived in my RV. I would make sure it was under a covered area to keep weather off.

#3 Can it lay by side empty in car for transportation?

The unit should remain in an upright position. If it must be transported on its side, it should be placed in an upright position for at least 4 hours.

#4 Anyone else's have gray putty or caulk in all the inside edges? Or a nasty gas smell?

No caulking in mine either. No smell in mine but it is in use all the time. I did notice a slight plastic smell when I first opened it but that is gone now.

#5 What kind of venting does this unit need? Can I hide it away in a cabinet?

A cabinet inside an air conditioned home where the vents have at least one foot of space, possibly, just remember it sits like a chest so in a cabinet you would always be pulling it out to open the lid, it does not stand on its side like a normal refrigerator.

#6 Does it have a drainage hole? Would spraying water inside damage electronics?

Yes it does. Both inside the freezer and outside (you have to remove both to drain). Spraying the inside would not harm the electronics, however be careful not to spray the outside vents. When storing, I put one charcoal briquette (not matchlight, or you will get a petroleum smell) to eliminate any odors.
