About Your Halogen Cartridge
Congratulations on your choice of a Jenn-Air halogen cooktop cartridge. The two
cooking areas are identified bycircles on theglass ceramic cooktop. When an element
isturned ON,acircular halogen bulbwill glowinstantly and within seconds, the redglow
of the heating element can be seen through the glass ceramic top. Itis normal to see
the redglow ofthe element whenever itcycles on. The element willcycle on and off for
all control settings except Hi. However, itmay also cycle on Hi ifimproper cookware is
used.
Cooking Procedures
BEFORE FIRST USE. CLEAN COOKTOP CARTRIDGE (See p.7)
For best results, always use recommended cookware.
Differentcookpots anddifferentamountsoffood beingprepared willinfluence the
control settings neededforbest results. (Seecooktopor range use& caremanual
for typicalcontrol settings.) Forfastest cooking, startwith the surface control on
Hi for one minute; then turn the control to the lower desired setting. Covering
pans, whenever possible, speeds cooking and is more energy efficient.
Theglass ceramiccooking area retainsheatforaperiod oftime aftertheelements
havebeen turned off. Put thisretained heat to good use. Turn the elements off
a few minutes before food is completely cooked and use the retained heat to
completethecooking. Becauseofthis heatretention characteristic,theelements
will not respondto changes in heat settings as quickly as coil elements. Inthe
event of a potential boil over, remove the cookpot from the cooking area.
When preparing foods which can be easily scorched or over-cooked, start
cooking at a lower temperature setting and gradually increase temperature as
needed.
A higher settingthan normal may be necessary when using cookpots made with
material that is slow to conduct heat, such as cast iron.
A lowersetting canbe usedwhencooking small quantities offoods or whenusing
a cookpot that conducts heatquickly.
