Camera screen messages
Picture is too
dark or
underexposed.
Flash is not on, or the
subject was too far
away for the flash to
be effective.
Move so there is no more than 11.8 ft (3.6
m) between the camera and the subject; 6.9
ft (2.1 m) in Telephoto.
Auto exposure was
not achieved.
To take the best possible pictures, press the
Shutter button halfway and hold. When
the ready light glows green, press the
Shutter button the rest of the way down
to take the picture.
Not enough light. Increase Exposure Compensation (page 18).
The camera
does not
recognize
SD/MMC card.
The card may not be
SD/MMC certified.
Purchase a certified SD/MMC card.
The card may be
corrupt.
Reformat the card (page 22).
Caution: Formatting deletes all pictures and
videos, including protected files.
Card is not properly
inserted in camera.
Insert a card into the slot, then push to seat
(
page 7).
Camera freezes
up when a card
is inserted or
removed.
Camera detects an
error when the card is
inserted or removed.
Turn the camera off, then back on.
Make sure the camera is off when inserting
or removing a card.
Memory card
full
Storage is full. Insert a new card (page 7), transfer pictures
(page 38), or delete pictures (page 25).
The maximum
number of files or
folders is reached (or
other directory
concern).
Transfer pictures and videos to the
computer, then format the card or internal
memory (
page 22).
Caution: Formatting a card deletes all
pictures and videos, including protected
files.
