CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Caution: Be sure to unplug the coee maker and let it cool down
before cleaning. To protect against electrical shock, do not
immerse the cord, plug, or unit in water or liquid.
1 Clean all detachable parts after each use in hot, soapy
water.
2 Wipe external surfaces with a soft, damp cloth to
remove stains.
3 Water droplets may buildup in the area above the
funnel and drip onto the base during brewing. To
control the dripping, wipe o the area with a clean, dry
cloth after each use.
4 Replace all parts and your coee maker is ready for use.
REMOVING MINERAL DEPOSITS
To keep your coee maker operating eciently, you should
periodically remove the mineral deposits that normally
occur in most areas.
1 Fill the tank with water and household descaler or
vinegar (use a 4:1 solution) to the MAX level in coee
maker. You can also use citric acid to remove mineral
deposits, at a ratio of 100 parts water to three parts citric
acid.
2 Place the carafe on the warming plate. Make sure that
the center of the carafe lid aligns with the bottom of the
funnel. Also make sure that the funnel is in place and
that there is no dry coee in the lter.
3 Turn on the coee maker and allow it to “brew” the
descaling solution.
4 After brewing about one cup of the solution, turn o the
coee maker and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then
repeat step 3.
5 Turn on the coee maker again and brew the descaling
solution until the water tank is dry.
6 Rinse the coee maker by running clear water through
the brewing cycle at least three times.
TIPS FOR GREAT-TASTING COFFEE
• A clean coee maker is essential for making
great-tasting coee. Regularly clean the coee maker as
specied in the “Cleaning and Maintenance” section.
• Always use fresh, cold water in the coee maker.
• Store unused coee in a cool, dry place. After opening,
reseal it tightly and store it in a refrigerator to maintain
its freshness.
• For an optimum coee taste, buy whole coee beans
and nely grind them just before brewing.
• Do not reuse coee grounds and do not reheat brewed
coee.
• Clean the coee maker when over-extraction causes
oiliness. Small oil droplets on the surface of brewed,
black coee are due to the extraction of oil from the
coee. Oiliness may occur more frequently if heavily
roasted coees are used.
TROUBLESHOOTING
PROBLEM
Why is my coee
maker leaking?
Why does my coee
maker brew slower
than it used to?
Why would my coee
maker overow?
Why isn’t my coee
maker brewing
coee?
Why does my coee
taste bad?
SOLUTION
• Make sure that the lter is properly positioned
in the funnel holder and that the water tank
cover is fully closed.
• Avoid overlling the water tank.
• If you have checked all of these items and the
coee maker is still leaking, contact our
service center.
Your coee maker may require cleaning to
remove mineral deposits that build up over
time. This is normal.
• If the carafe is removed for more than 30
seconds while the coee maker is brewing it
may cause it to overow. Make sure that the
carafe is replaced promptly after removing.
• The carafe may not have been properly
positioned under the funnel. Be sure the
carafe is centered directly under the funnel.
• Using too much coee may cause the coee
maker to overow.
• The lter may have become folded over. Make
sure that the lter is properly centered in the
funnel. Try wetting the edges to prevent lter
collapse.
• Using coee that is too nely ground can
sometimes result in overow. Use only coee
that is ground for automatic drip coeemakers.
• Make sure that your coee maker is plugged
into a working 120V electrical outlet.
• Make sure that the power switch is turned on.
• Make sure that the water tank has water in it.
• The coee maker may require cleaning to
remove mineral deposits that build up over
time.
The coee may taste bad due to one of the
following reasons:
• The age of coee beans aects the taste. Old
coee may taste stale. Coee tastes best if you
use fresh beans.
• Quality of coee beans and type of water you
use aect the coee taste. Use good beans
and fresh, clean water.
• The cleanliness of your coee maker aects
the coee taste. Make sure to clean the coee
maker every 40-80 brews.
