7. Control Connections
The rear panels of the EX-1280, EX-440C, and EX-1280C include various connections for compatible controllers:
The EX-1280, EX-440C, and EX-1280C include general-purpose connections (Control Inputs or Control
Outputs) for external control hardware.
The EX-1280, EX-440C, and EX-1280C include a RS-232 port (Serial) for connecting industry-standard
serial control systems.
The EX-1280 and EX-1280C include an RS-485 port (CC-16) for compatible Bose controllers.
GPIO
Use the rear-panel general-purpose input/output (GPIO) connections to interface the processor with external
control hardware.
The EX-1280 and EX-1280C include five general-purpose inputs and five general-purpose outputs.
The EX-440C includes one general-purpose input.
General-purpose Inputs
General-purpose control input ports are used to connect external hardware such as potentiometers (to
control levels or gains) and switches (to set logic states). Use ControlSpace Designer to easily assign
functions to these external controls.
Using Switches
Both toggle switches and
pushbuttons can be used with
control inputs. Each input
terminal is tied to an internal two-
kiloohm pull-up resistor so that
external switches can be wired
directly from input to ground.
Using Potentiometers
10 kiloohm potentiometers can be
connected and associated with
control gain blocks in a system
design. Inputs are compatible
(through ControlSpace Designer)
with linear-taper potentiometers
wired for minimum resistance at
the fully clockwise position or
at the fully counter-clockwise
position.
Current Source Devices
Some devices such as LEDs
and low-current relays can be
powered directly from control
outputs. A maximum source
current of 10 milliamps is
available.
Source Limits: 8 VDC,
10 mA (max.)
Current Sink Devices
Devices that require more current
than is available from a current-
source configuration can use
control outputs to sink up to
100 milliamps when used with
external power supplies. Use
proper precautions when driving
inductive loads.
Sink Limits: 100 mA (max.).
External supplies must be
24 VDC.
