Ecosmart ECO 27 Questions and Answers

#1 How do you determine which size/fittings to buy?

It comes with 3/4 brazed male connections. I used braded hose connections (found at Lowe’s/HD). Recommend grabbing a shut off valve for the supply side. This helps with maintenance later.

#2 Does this product come with pressure release valve?

No. We had to have our plumber add a pressure release valve to the hot water line coming out.

#3 Can it be installed in a manufactured home?

Yes, as long as the electrical requirements for installation are met. The type of home does not matter.

#4 Can I run a 1/2 inch cold feed pipe to the 3/4 inch NPT input (with adapter) with out any problems? Worried about air or pressure loss.

You can without any loss of pressure. If you have 1/2 coming in, you likely have 1/2 coming out.

#5 Can a plumber install this to qualify for the warranty or do I need a plumber and an electrician both ?

On the week of 6-25-18 and spoke to a technician before purchasing unit, this is one of the questions I asked him. He said they used to require both licensed electrician & plumber, but now they just require one of the two for the warranty to be valid.

#6 Is this unit rated for use to supplement a solar water heated system?

You need a method to make sure your input temp is not more than your set point output temp. There have been people severely burned from solar water heaters without some kind of limiting system to make sure you do not step into a shower, turn the water on, wait for it to warm up, and find the temp increase does not stop at conformable and reaches scalding before they can get out. That said, this is a great unit to boost a solar system to the usable temperature range.
