For HEATING SEED STARTER.

Making the most of your Heating Seed Propagation Tray
Thank you for purchasing the IPOWER Heating Seed Propagation Tray. This propagator will prove an excellent
resource when growing new plants from seed or when taking root cuttings from established plants.
Benefits of using an Electric Seed Propagation Tray
Heat is the key to successful propagation. This electric heated base is designed to generate gentle heat within the
compost and should feel warm to the touch rather than hot. During the colder winter months, propagation is
important to prepare for Spring, but achieving a suitable temperature can be a real challenge, especially at night.
A base which is electrically heated can therefore dramatically increase your chance of successful seed and cutting
propagation. This propagator is not intended for use in unheated greenhouses where the temperature is hard to
regulate. It is instead designed for use within the home where average ambient temperatures will not fall below
10 degrees Celsius.
Positioning your Heating Seed Propagation Tray
Always try to avoid too much direct sunshine from South or West facing windows and instead site the unit on a
window ledge with plenty of appropriate light.
Important Safety Warning!
To ensure this unit is working, check it is switched on, then either place pots with seeds in the base or fill the tray
directly with compost. Leave the unit for approximately 2 hours, and then check that the upper surface of the
heated base is warm.
Water and electricity are not good bedfellows and do not mix. This unit should therefore, never be submerged in
water and care should be taken when cleaning the tray. If the flex becomes damaged, it can not be replaced so
the entire appliance should be disposed of. This product has been designed and manufactured to meet exacting
safety standards and the guidelines for use must always be fully complied with when using this electric
propagator.
Propagation Success
Light, water and heat, are the magic formula for achieving successful seed or cutting propagation. Combining
clear tray covers, heated base, light and water, creates a mini greenhouse effect and works to facilitate the
perfect growing conditions. Simply check daily that the compost is moist to ensure that your plants thrive.
To ensure best propagation results, it is important to check both the compost and ambient temperatures
regularly. The ideal compost temperature should register between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. As the propagator
will increase the compost temperatures by approximately 8 degrees Celsius, it is a good idea to measure the
ambient temperature first before deciding whether you need to switch the propagator on. The heated base will
generate a fixed heat, so if the weather is warm, check the temperature as you may not need to switch the unit
on during the day and only need to use it at night to combat the fall in ambient temperature.
Hygiene
It is important to remember that seedlings and cuttings can easily be damaged or lost through disease or
unintentional lack of care. We would therefore recommend keeping your work station and equipment clean and
ensure that old seed trays are thoroughly sterilised for re-use.
