#1 Is this secure enough to be on the front door?

I have one mounted on the front door of my storage building and have no problem with it. You might want something a little more attractive to install on the front door of your house. I have a plain brass keypad on mine.

#2 Does the Kwikset SmartCode 917 have a low battery indicator?

Yes, the light on the KWIKSET button will flash when the battery is low. I have not experienced this yet by this is what I have read

#3 Can this be installed in either the latch or deadbolt area?

As most deadbolt holes are smaller than the door knob. I would say no

#4 Does keypad have a light for night?

And it is. Press the Kwikset button and it lights up the numerical keypad.

#5 Does turning the handle from the inside always open the door? Or can you override the handle with the knob. We want to make sure this is child safe.

The handle will always work, open, no disenabling. The reasoning being for fire safety. Here is a simple idea, we used a safety child lock that fastened to the jam, then flip over to child proof.
