GE - General Electric JB640DR5WW Questions and Answers

#1 Could you explain Certified Sabbath Mode/what does it do for me?
Excited to get this range, have read the reviews and they are great!
Makes me feel like I have mad a good choice in this range!

When the Sabbath mode feature is activated, the oven may be set either to go on immediately and stay on for a set amount of time, or turn off automatically after a set amount of time. The oven will stay at the temperature the user selects when entering the Sabbath mode. The digital control display will not show time, temperature, or selected oven function until the Sabbath mode feature is manually de-activated at the conclusion of the Sabbath or holiday. While this may seem unusual to many people, it makes it possible for observant Jews to serve warm food on holidays, the underlying principle being that it is permissible to use electricity that is already on but not to turn it on or off during the duration of the holiday. Observant Jews are thus prohibited from turning on or off the oven, or taking an action that causes the oven control display to change during the Sabbath or religious holidays.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

#2 can I use corning ware on the glass top?
all of my pots and pans are corning ware.

Unfortunately, you will need to buy new cookware. Glass or Ceramic cookware is not recommended. These pans may scratch the surface. Glass is a poor conductor of heat so cooking times will be longer and they may require constant attention during cooking. .

Flat Bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Most current brands sold today have flat bottoms. Much older, used cookware and/or thinner cookware will show signs of no longer being flat. Non-flat pans may crack the glass.

* Use Medium or Heavy-Weight cookware.
* Stainless Steel is highly recommended. A sandwich clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper.
* Heavy-Weight Aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Aluminum residue sometimes appears as scratches on the cooktop, but these can be removed if cleaned immediately.
