⚠ TURN OFF the breaker before removing the wall plate. Verify
with a non-contact voltage tester. Lighng loads only — see Safety
& Warnings for the full list of loads this switch must not control.
You will need
• Phillips & Nat-blade screwdrivers, wire stripper, voltage tester
• Single-gang wall box, 2-3/4″ min depth; 14 AWG or larger
copper wire
Idenfy wires
• Line (black) → LINE terminal
• Load (black/red) → LOAD terminal — line and load can't be
swapped
• Neutral (white) → NEUTRAL terminal — required
• Ground (bare/green) → GROUND terminal (green, top of the
switch)
• Traveler (3-way only, red) → TRAVELER terminal
Install wires into the terminals
Strip each wire 5/8″ (16 mm). Loosen the screw terminal counter-
clockwise a few turns unAl you feel resistance. There are two holes
behind each terminal — insert the straight wire into one of them
and Aghten the screw clockwise to 12 lbf-in (14 kgf-cm). Don't wrap
wires around the screws, and don't use power tools.
W I R I N G — S I N G L E - P O L E
Power OFF. Ground → GROUND, Neutral → NEUTRAL, Line → LINE,
Load → LOAD. The neutral is usually a bundle — land the supplied
white jumper from that bundle on the NEUTRAL terminal. Tug-test
each wire, fold the wires back into the box, mount the switch, then
restore power.

SWITCH-ZW must be installed in the box that has line power. The
companion must be a standard mechanical 3-way switch. Run the
traveler (red) from the TRAVELER terminal to a traveler screw on the
companion, and run a white conductor from the companion's
COMMON screw back into the neutral bundle. The companion
makes and breaks that loop only — no load current passes through
it.
If your wiring doesn't match, stop and consult an electrician.

Add the device (inclusion)
Set your controller to add a device. Press the TOP paddle 3× quickly
— the blue LED Nashes. Green 2 s = success. Red 2 s = failed, retry.
Remove the device (exclusion)
Set your controller to remove a device. Press the BOTTOM paddle 3×
quickly.
Factory reset
Press the BOTTOM paddle 2× quickly, then hold for at least 10
seconds. Purple Nashing → solid purple 2 s = reset complete.
SmartStart
Scan the Z-Wave QR code on the metal yoke under the paddle with a
SmartStart-capable controller. The full DSK is printed on the carton.
The switch is added automaAcally within 10 minutes.
First power-up
A switch that has never joined a network powers up with the relay
OFF and the blue LED on. A switch that was already in a network
returns to its last state with a so/ start.
Associaon groups
Group 1 — Lifeline (5 nodes, Binary Switch Report)
Group 2 — Single Press (5 nodes, sends Basic Set on a local paddle
press)
