1. SAFETY
1.1. ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! It is the user’s responsibility to check the following:

9 Inspect power supply leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage.
9 Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before connecting it to the power supply.

9 Ensurethatanyfaultyitemisrepairedorisreplacedimmediatelybyaqualiedelectrician.
9 Ifthecableorplugisdamagedduringuse,switchotheelectricitysupplyandremovefromuse.
9 Ifthesupplycordisdamaged,itmustbereplacedbythemanufacturer,itsserviceagentorsimilarlyqualiedpersonsinorderto
avoidahazard.Ensurethatrepairsarecarriedoutbyaqualiedelectrician.
9 SealeyrecommendthatanRCD(ResidualCurrentDevice)isusedwithallelectricalproducts.
Important:Ensurethatthevoltageratingontheappliancesuitsthepowersupplytobeusedandthattheplugisttedwiththe
correct fuse.

1.3. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
9 Ensurethereisanotherpersonwithinhearingrangeofyourvoiceandcloseenoughtocometoyouraid,shouldaproblemarise
when working near a lead-acid battery.
9 Wearsafetyeyeprotectionandprotectiveclothing.Avoidtouchingeyeswhileworkingnearbattery.
9 Havefreshwaterandsoapnearbyincasebatteryacidcontactsskin,clothingoreyes.
9 Washimmediatelywithsoapandwaterifbatteryacidcontactsskinorclothing.Ifacidenterseye,usheyeimmediatelywithcool,
clean running water for at least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.
9 Removepersonalmetallicitemssuchasrings,bracelets,necklacesandwatches.Alead-acidbatterycanproduceashort-circuit
currentwhichishighenoughtoweldaringortheliketometal,whichwouldcausesevereburns.
9 Ensurehands,clothing(especiallybelts)areclearoffanbladesandothermovingorhotpartsofengine,removetiesandcontain
long hair.
8 DO NOTsmokeorallowasparkorameinthevicinityofbatteryorengine.
1.4. CHARGING SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
9 Familiariseyourselfwiththeapplicationandlimitationsofthechargeraswellasthepotentialhazards.
Alsorefertothevehiclemanufacturer’shandbook.IFINANYDOUBTCONSULTAQUALIFIEDELECTRICIAN.
9 Ensure the charger is in good order and condition before use. If in any doubt DO NOT use the unit, contact your Sealey stockist.
9 Usethechargerinhorizontalpositiononlyandensureitisplacedonastablesurfacewhichwilladequatelysupportitsweight.
1.4.1. Connection Procedure
9 Thebatteryterminalnotconnectedtothechassishastobeconnectedrst.Theotherconnectionistobemadetothechassis,
remotefromthebatteryandfuelline.Thebatterychargeristhentobeconnectedtothesupplymains.
Aftercharging,disconnectthebatterychargerfromthesupplymains.Thenremovethechassisconnectionandthenthebattery
connection.
9 Keep tools and other items away from the engine and ensure you can see the battery and working parts of engine clearly.
9 Ensuretheoutputofthechargeristhesamevoltageasthebattery.
9 Ifbatteryhascapstoaccessthebatteryuid,removethecapsandchecktheuidlevelbeforeconnectingthepowerclamps.

8 DO NOT use the charger outdoors, or in damp, or wet locations and DO NOToperatewithinthevicinityofammableliquidsor
gases.
8 DO NOTusechargerinsidevehicleorinsideenginecompartment.
9 Ensurethereiseectiveventilationtopreventabuild-upofexplosivegases,andDO NOTcoverorobstructchargerventilation
louvres.
8 DO NOT use the charger for a task for which it is not designed.

9 When not in use, store the charger carefully in a safe, dry, childproof location.
9 Anextensioncordshouldnotbeusedunlessabsolutelynecessary.Useofanimproperextensioncordcouldresultinariskofre
andelectricshock.Ifanextensioncordmustbeused,makesure:
•Thatthepinsontheplugoftheextensioncordarethesamenumber,sizeandshapeasthoseoftheplugonthecharger.
•Thattheextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.
•ThatthewiresizeislargeenoughfortheACampereratingofthechargerasspecied.
9 Toreducetheriskofelectricshock,unplugthechargerfromtheoutletbeforeattemptinganymaintenanceorcleaning.Simply
turningothecontrolswillnotreducethisrisk.
9 Amarine(boat)batterymustberemovedandchargedonshore.Tochargeiton-boardrequiresequipmentspeciallydesignedfor
marine use.
9 Childrenfromage8yearsandabove,personswithreducedphysical,sensory,ormentalcapabilitiesthosewithlackofexperience
andknowledgecanusetheappliance,iftheyhavebeengivensupervisionorinstructionconcerninguseoftheapplianceinasafe
waytounderstandthehazardsinvolved.

9 Cleaningandusermaintenanceontheapplianceshallnotbemadebychildrenwithoutsupervision.
9 Theapplianceshallbedisconnectedfromitspowersourceduringserviceandwhenreplacingpartsand,ifthattheremovalofthe

2. INTRODUCTION
Intelligenttrickle9-Stagebatterycharger,designedtooptimisetheconditionofthebatteryanddeliverchargewhenneeded.Compatible
withallAGM,GelandVRLAoodedbatteriescommonlyfoundineverythingfromautomotiveandfarmequipmenttomotorcycles,ATVs,golf
buggiesandlawnmowers.Alsosuitableforcharginglithiumbatteries(12Vonly).Microprocessorconstantlyregulatesthevoltagepattern
allowingthebatterytoberechargedfullyandsafelywithoutfearofovercharging.Extra-longreachacrosstheworkshop/garagewitha2m
powersupplycablelengthand2mcableandclamplength.Safetyfeaturesincludeovercharge,overheating,shortcircuitandreversepolarity

4. BATTERY CHARGING
NOTE: Ensure all information from the Safety section is understood and followed.
4.1. CONNECTING THE CHARGER TO THE BATTERY
Thecharger’soutputleadshavecolour-codedbatteryclips(RED-POSITIVEandBLACK-NEGATIVE).Determinewhichpostof
batteryisgrounded(connected)tothechassis.
Connecttheredclamptothebattery’spositivepole.
Connecttheblackclamptothevehiclechassisremotefromthefuelpipeandthebattery.
Connect the charger to the mains supply.
NOTE: Some vehicles may have positively earthed batteries. In this case:
Connecttheblackclamptothebattery’snegativepole.
Connecttheredclamptothevehiclechassisremotefromthefuelpipeandthebattery.
Connect the charger to the mains supply.
4.2. Oncethechargerisconnectedtothebatterycorrectly,itwillstartchargingwithadefaultsetting(Current5A&Battery,TypeSTD)
IF the settings are not manually adjusted by the user.
4.3. DISCONNECTION
4.3.1. Whendisconnectingcharger,disconnectmainssupply,removeclipfromvehiclechassis,andthenremoveclipfrombatteryterminal.
4.4. CHARGER OPERATIONAL MODES
Stage 1: Diagnostic
Analysethebatteryandcheckifbatteryvoltageisvalidtopreventchargingadamagedbattery.
Stage 2: Recovery Charge
Low-voltagebatterycanbepre-chargedwithlowcurrentandincreasedvoltage.Theincreasedvoltagecanhelptoremovethe
sulphate inside the battery and restore its initial capacity.
Stage 3: Soft Start
Graduallyincreasethechargecurrentuntilthepresetchargecurrentisreached.
Stage 4: Pulse Charge
Pulsecurrentwithappropriateuctuationwilltakeplacetofurtheractivatethebattery.
Stage 5: Recondition
WorkasapreparatorystagetochargebatterywithaconstantcurrentbeforeBulkchargingstep.
Stage 6: Bulk Charge
Chargebatterywithamaximumconstantcurrenttoreachthefullvoltageofbatteryaccordingtothepre-setmode.
Stage 7: Absorption Charge
Chargebatterywithaconstantvoltageandchargingwillbegraduallydecliningandendedtonallyreachfullbatterycapacity.
Stage 8: Evaluation Check
Automaticallymonitorthebatteryvoltageforawhileafterbeingfullycharged.
Stage 9: Floating Charge (maintenance)
Floating charge the battery with a small current to maintain and keep battery in a health state. If the battery is fully charged, the
chargerwillstopchargingforawhilebutstillmonitorthebatterystate.Thechargerwillresumechargingifbatteryvoltagedropsunder
ratedlevel.

5.1. Aftereachuse,cleanthebatterychargerclamps.Besuretoremoveanybatteryuidthatwillcausecorrosionofthecopperclamps.
Clean the outside case of the charger with a soft cloth and, if necessary, mild soap solution.
5.2. Keepthechargercordslooselycoiledduringstoragetopreventdamagetothecords.Donotusethechargerifcordsorclampshave
been damaged in any way.
Ifthepowersupplycordisdamaged,itmustbereplacedbythemanufacturer,itsserviceagentorqualiedpersoninordertoavoida
