Your Elkay

convenience, we’ve outlined our recommended care and cleaning instructions.

Daily cleaning of your stainless steel sink is recommended to avoid build-up of soap or
mineral deposits, which may adversely impact the product’s appearance. Use an
ordinary mild detergent to wash the sink, rinse, and then dry with a soft cloth.
DO
• DO clean your Elkay stainless steel sink prior to first use.
• DO wash and dry your sink after each use.
• DO use a bottom grid or rinsing basket to protect your sink.
• DO run cold water in the sink when pouring boiling water inside it.
DO NOT
• DO NOT use soap pads, steel wool or wire brushes on or within your sink; the
particles can adhere to the sink surface and will eventually rust. If an abrasive
pad must be used, we recommend you use blue Scotch-Brite
®
No-Scratch pads.
Others will scratch and dull the surface.
• DO NOT use dish mats, as these can trap soap and dirt, hindering cleanliness
and harboring harmful bacteria.
• DO NOT use cleaners containing ammonia, chlorides (bleach) or other harsh
chemicals. If exposed to bleach, your stainless steel sink should be rinsed
immediately to prevent corrosion.
• DO NOT store open containers of household cleaners and chemicals containing
chlorides beneath the sink: bleach, acid, drain cleaner and toilet bowl cleanser.
Vapor emission may cause corrosion and pitting to the exposed stainless steel
and other metals, such as water supply lines.
• DO NOT leave standing water or liquids, such as coffee or tea, in your sink;
doing so may result in unwanted stains.
General Cleaning

Light scratches are normal for stainless steel sinks; over time, these light scratches will
blend into the uniform finish pattern.
Maintenance and repair guidelines for Elkay stainless steel sinks are dependent upon
finish type. Finish-specific recommendations are outlined below. For each finish, begin
with Step 1; if unsuccessful, move to the next recommended step.
❖ Lustertone® Classic and Lustertone Iconix® Ground Finishes
Recommended cleaning kit: LK34
For stains or light scratches, we suggest use of a mildly aggressive cleaner, such as
Shiny Sinks® Plus or Flitz®. For stubborn stains and more noticeable scratches, we
recommend use of a more aggressive cleaner, such as Bar Keepers Friend®. Ensure
the cleaner is rubbed in the direction of the sink grain lines and the sink completely
dried when finished.
Step 1. Powder with sponge
Step 2. Paste with sponge
Step 3. Green Scotch-Brite Pad with powder or paste working with grain
Step 4. Black sanding screen with powder or paste working with grain
❖ Crosstown®, Dayton® and Celebrity® Satin Finishes
Recommended cleaning kit: LK34*
*Note: DO NOT use strong abrasive cleaner in the kit, use powder cleaner ONLY.

Stainless Steel Sink Maintenance and Repair

We suggest the use of mild liquid dishwashing detergent to clean the sink; rinse
thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. DO NOT use an abrasive cleanser or cloth, as it will
permanently scratch the finish.
Step 1. Mild liquid dishwashing detergent with sponge
Step 2. Dry with soft cloth
The outlined steps above are dependent upon water quality. Failure to follow the recommended care and
cleaning instructions will void product warranty.
❖ Home Remedies
For major grime and/or stains, we recommend the below home remedies. Prior to use,
test your preferred solution on an unseen area to determine potential effects on finish.
- Vinegar/water solution: Mix ½ cup white vinegar with ½ cup water. Dip a soft
cloth into the solution and then rub in the direction of the grain lines. Once
finished, rinse the solution and dry with soft cloth to prevent damage to sink
finish.
- Baking soda/toothbrush mixture: Appy a small amount of baking soda and water
to a toothbrush, then rub gently in the direction of the grain lines. Once finished,
rinse thoroughly and dry with soft cloth to prevent damage to sink finish.
DO NOT allow any part of your stainless steel sink to soak in either home remedy.
